Questions & Answers

A 12 is the best I can do. I live in Florida and have a 5' by 22' inground pool. Is there a general rule of thumb for how many boxes I Is that okay?

It wouldn't make sense for me to go with fewer If you want to use solar panels to your advantage, you must make sure the surface of the panels is no less than 60% of your pool's surface, and the sun exposure the panels will receive. I recall reading somewhere that the surface of the panels should be no less than 60% of your pool surface. A pool your size has four panels that would give you a long swimming season in Florida if the panels are in the sun. It would be nice if I could use an automatic temperature control for the panels, but I'm too cheap for such a system. There should be some type of safety device that prevents scalding in accordance with the building code. discovered the hard way that if you turn the panels on late in the day, you'll have hotter water than McDonald's coffee coming out of your supply line. It is in SW Florida that I live.

Do you need this for internal use only In the air or on the ground Where can I find an above-ground pool? There is a title for this item that states - It says it is above ground, but the photo says it is on the ground That ground is. Pool (My pool is at upper levels That ground is. ?

As far as I can tell, it works well for an in ground pool. You can also use it for an above ground pool with It just means that the water you have in your pool will flow through the panels before returning to your pool once it runs through the panels

Is it possible to patch a leak that forms? In that case, what do you need?

Where the leak is located will determine how long the leak will last. A tube is okay if it is in a tube. There is, I believe, a kit available from the manufacturer.

In order to utilize these panels to their fullest capacity, how can valves be adjusted properly?

The system is connected to the discharge line (2") that goes to the pool as the source, and from the pool, it is connected to the same discharge line as the return. There is also a 1/2" pipe at the top of the return end of the system with a valve on it to allow for the release of air, which is very difficult

The money is well spent Quite a way to go! bought 3 boxes of solar panels for the pool (which is actually 4 panels of 6x20' length) since it measures 18'x36' and has a capacity of 26,000 gallons

Our roof slope by the pool is south facing, so there was just enough room for them to be installed. The NY/Canada border is right next to our house, so we were eager to extend our swimming season as far We had our first good warm, sunny day (77 degrees) with them hooked up today, and the water temperature went from 70 degrees this morning to 77 degrees by nightfall. The maximum degree we would have reached without the panels may have been 72 or 73. I know a friend with the same set in his neighborhood- He says his pool stays between the middle and upper 20s May to September in the 80s The months of October and April are usually good for swimming. We did not bother buying the installation kit and instead purchased our own clamps, hoses, and connectors from the local Home Depot, based on the recommendation of others reviewers. As well as the Hayward 3 we bought A way automated actuator which (by using sensors in water lines), will automatically feed the warm solar water When the weather is cool or wet, a pool heater can be used to add heated water, but at night or on cooler days it can be shut off and just circulate the pool water. In terms of the startup, everything seems to be going well, so far I'm impressed, but I'll update our review in a few weeks once we've had a chance to evaluate it for a longer duration.

The overall quality of the product was good
4/5

Would purchase Having bought two of these heaters, I have a couple of minor issues. There was a high level of quality to the film. Although they were a bit challenging to unroll, they were worth the effort. To soften the plastic, I heated a torpedo heater so they would lay flat on my garage floor so I could keep track of what I was doing. I wanted to make sure these would fit the roof of my barn work shop, which is 20 feet long. Each heater measures just under 20 feet, so they fit fine. It comes with two solar panels, four rubber connectors with hose clamps, and several metal pieces about four inches long that have a right angle bend on one end and a screw hole on the other. a slot in the plastic near its bottom and top edges, which these "drills" are supposed to insert into to grip them as you screw them in. didn't see how these would work with any kind of strap. I can understand the problems and confusion that some people have experienced with these due to the lack of instructions that came with them. Please give me some information on how to fasten or plumb these together or down. One of the most important things to understand about these is that you cannot run the full flow of water from your pool pump through them. It is not possible for them to handle such a high level of A valve in the line needs to be installed in order to control how much water goes to the heater and how much returns directly Those who have leaks at the connectors or ruptured connectors must be trying to run all water through their heaters at the same time. In response to complaints that the rubber connectors won't work since the ends of the pipe are threaded, I responded that the ends of the pipe are designed to fit either threaded fittings or hose clamps. As the rubber connectors pass through the threaded holes, they slide into a wide groove made for clamp sealing. Using pvc pipe caps and thread sealer tape, you will need to buy four 1 1/2" threaded pipe caps if you intend to run water through one panel and then back through the other. In addition to the rubber connectors, I inserted a 1 1/2" slip to 1" female thread reducer between the input and output water lines. In the next step, I threaded a male 1" threaded to black plastic pipe barbed adapter into the hose. In a couple of places, I used unions so that I could easily disconnect the water lines if necessary. There were no leaks or problems with my system on the first try. The 1/2" metal conduit I used to hold my system down to the roof measures five feet long. Each piece of the heater was laid down on the conduit and every control panel was marked, after which I drilled screw holes through the conduit at each of those locations. To seal the conduit between the roof and the 3/4" rubber gas line type hose, I cut a 3/4" piece of 3/8" rubber gas line type hose. After filling the short piece of hose with silicone, I placed it under the conduit and ran a galvanized screw through it to create a spacer within the roof shingles. You can be sure you have a good seal on the roof by pressing down on the hose and forcing it to squeeze out a little silicone. I had one quality issue, though One of the heater panels had been trimmed too close to the last tube, which meant that tube would have leaked. I don't know what else to complain about, except a lack of instructions. Ensure you identify this before installing, so that it can be easily fixed. A small piece of that last tube was cut from both ends and a small screw was driven into each pipe where it meets the last tube. ****On a sunny day the effect can be seen as several degrees warming the water. The amount of water in your pool, what amount of sun you get, and how cold it gets at night will determine how much heat is generated. As they only raise the water temperature a little, if the water in your pool is 50 degrees, your pool's return temperature may be in the range of 55 to 60 degrees. It is possible for your pool to be 80 degrees and your return to be 90 degrees. A temperature is a function of flow as well. There is a possibility that very hot water will emerge if the water trickles through. A fast flow of air does not always cause much difference in the way it feels. No matter how much heat you add to your pool, it will provide the same amount of heat. It is my hope that this review will help It was a worthwhile purchase for me, and I may buy one more next year to add to what I already have.

Those techniques work, but for only a short time
3/5

One star is too low for me, but two stars is also fine. It works, which is why it gets 2 stars. A season breaks after 1 because that's how many there are in a year. My business has had other panels for the last nine years (same brand) with the same results. The first year, they are fine, but the following year, even after being winterized, they leak. It is possible for them to develop more leaks during In spite of this, they *DO* provide heat to I'd reach as high as 76F after a few hot days before panels and solar covers, but I was mostly in the 70s and 80s before these It is in the range of 74. As long as I have eight panels and the worst possible roof orientation, I can reach close to 90F, but I use my pump to shut it off when it's too hot. For the most part of this season, my 84-point average is pretty decent In the pool, the temperature was 86 degrees. I'm off to plug the broken tube now, that's the only thing that works when it comes to fixing the leak. Another thought is that the cost of photovoltaic panels has dropped considerably, so I may make an investment and install a heat pump when more leaks develop with the panels I have. The concept is awesome, but the quality is terrible.

The installation instructions are weak, so here are some pictures of what I did with some Home Depot assistance.

There is no problem with the product

It's hard to understand how the check valve works and the instructions. This heater keeps the pool at a nice temperature. The pool I have is 16k gallons in size. Within a few days, a noticeable difference had been noticed. It would be helpful if instructions were more descriptive. My filter is plumbed with 1 1/2" from the filter up to the collecting unit and back down again. There was a pressure and flow problem as a result. After ripping it out a week later, I replaced it all with a 2-inch pipe. A solution has been found for the issue. Please check all parts before installing in case they are in working order. The check valve that came with the kit was defective. When I route the water through the collectors, I get a 10 psi increase in water pressure. With a 1 1/2 hp pump, the system is running well.

It is a great idea, but it is of poor quality
3/5

This system requires that you replace the panels if you use it. As a first point, I want to emphasize that the concept works extremely Since I live in VT, our solar heating system (which gets about five to In light of this, the quality of the panels is pretty poor. Our pool system has four panels attached to it, and it's connected to a large inground pool. During the past five years, we have had to replace all four panels due to leaks we were unable to repair (by cutting tubes and fitting short screws into them). I had already replaced two panels halfway through last season, but upon opening the pool this week, I discovered that these two brand new panels have sprung substantial leaks that may or may not be repaired. This is the worst thing that could have happened- As a matter of fact, they're just out of warranty (of course), and I didn't even use them for a full season. My recommendation would be to look elsewhere if you are looking into solar heating systems. It is prohibitively expensive to replace these (and the constant repair work) every year.
