It isn't necessary because each outlet is self-contained. Neither of these things should be shut down. Closing an outlet completely creates too much back pressure, which can shorten the rubber diaphragm's life. The outlets can be linked together for maximum output.

Selected User Reviews For Danner Manufacturing, Inc. 40514 Supreme-Hydro Oxy-Flo, Low Volume Air Pump, 3.5-watt
It appears to be very quiet, and I spend my days working right next to it. I like the top-mounted adjustable dial, but I also use a gang valve I got from a big box store a while ago to control the air rate in each individual hose. br>br>I use it to power two lines, and it's become my go-to pump because it's so dependable. Overall, I highly recommend it, depending on your intended use, because I believe it can be customized in a variety of ways to fit most scenarios.
I highly recommend it. I like that it can be adjusted and that it is powerful enough to pump air out of diffuser tubing without being too loud. This air pump will be used for vegetable hydroponics, so it's critical for me that it has a good air output and a long diffuser tubing length. br>br>Comparison of Supreme-Supreme-Supreme-Supreme-Supreme-Supreme- With pumps I've recently purchased: Hydroponics 40514 Low Volume Air Pump br>br>Way more powerful and quieter than the Hpump, even when set to the highest setting. By the way, I don't recommend the Hpump(or stingray-shaped pumps) at all; it was quickly returned. Blowing air into water with a straw produces better results (sadly, this is not an exaggeration). At 26 dollars, it's way overpriced, and it's only worth $5. And it couldn't even get air out of the air stone it provided, and it didn't work with diffuser tubing at all. br>br>It's not as powerful as the vivosun air pump, but it's a lot quieter and more adjustable. If you want a lot of power and don't mind a lot of humming, vivosun is the way to go. I highly recommend the vivosun, but I'll probably keep it in the garage or something because it's a little too loud to simply drown out indoors, despite its considerable power. It works great with diffuser tubing and produces a lot of air.
The sound level was extremely low, which was the first thing I noticed. That was my biggest concern, and I'm sure it's the same for a lot of other people looking to buy an air pump. It's sitting on the tile floor beneath my fish tank, and it's so quiet, barely audible. I used to have a really cheap API air pump that you can get at petco or petsmart, but I couldn't get it to be as quiet as this one. The air flow is consistent and strong, and it stays level on the ground without the use of any cotton or other materials. I've got it running through two large spherical air stones in my fish tank, and I've never had a problem with the air flow being weak or not reaching the entire air stone. This is a fantastic item.
It works well, and I like the ones that have a dial so you can control how much air comes through, which this one does. I don't think it's loud at all, and I have it connected to a sponge filter that many people complain about being loud, but mine isn't. I'm easily disturbed by noises, especially when I'm trying to sleep, but this is quiet enough that I don't even notice it's on.
br>When comparing ActiveAqua 7 to ActiveAqua 8. 8L/m: ActiveAqua has a flow rate that is nearly double that of ActiveAqua. Active Aqua, on the other hand, was just a smidgeon better than Danner in my tests. br>ActiveAqua is loud and unappealing. It also has a problem with balance, with one outlet being noticeably weaker than the other. br>br>Overall, this pump has exceeded my expectations.
It is quiet and powerful, and I recommend it to anyone who requires an air pump with two outlets and the ability to adjust the bubble rate from low to high.
Because of how quiet it is, I had to double-check that it was on and working. For those interested in hydroponics, this is a no-brainer at its current price, as it has plenty of power.
For Halloween, I used this pump to create a Frankenstein bubbler. I injected air from the pump into two separate columns of water using coiled copper tubing. Each column has a different color lighting scheme and an air pressure gauge. It has a nice steam punk vibe to it, which is ideal for my annual Halloween Haunted House. The pump generates enough pressure to produce a nice bubble effect and operate the gauges. For my needs, this is ideal.
