It is possible. There is usually more than one hole in the pump where air is sucked in. White material on the pump is a filter that prevents debris from getting into the system. There is no sign of it on my larger danner

These diffusers last for years and can be cleaned easily. I use the uxcel brand of plastic diffusers.

Based on the short time it has been in operation, it appears consistent and reliable. The design is sleek and the noise level is reasonable. It does have a slight hub and vibration, but this blends in with any kind of ambient noise. UL approval is important because it's an electrical product, so safety certification and design are both key. The item is priced at clearance level, but the quality and value are retail level.
The pump I bought for running a sponge filter in a ten gallon plant was certainly more than I expected. The pump is beautiful, so much so that I had to put a bread tie in the airline to restrict some of the flow, it is that good. I loved When it is mounted on the wall it creates very little sound besides the expected small hmmm sound however, it is not too loud when it is just sitting. If you are placing it too close to a fish tank, it will create more noise.
A 5 watt was attached to the power adapter. The 1 is what I bought.
It wouldn't be much of a pressure if you were trying to make a small budget work well. This is not going to happen. It does what it has to do, however.
The power has been constant for the last few months. It is definitely worth a try.
They are the quietest air pumps I have ever used and this is the second one I have purchased.

In the following days it was impossible for the air stone to move any air after being submerged for longer than three days I can fit inside of four Within a month, the fan is not moving air at all, even though you can hear it and feel it Waste of money in more ways than one I am frustrated that I cannot use an air pump until I find something else.
