Questions & Answers

The majority of ant killers simply cause the ants to relocate. Is it true that there are a lot of dead ants on and around the mounds?

The ants take the Advion back to their nest, where it remains for about two days. Fire ants and large red ants both benefit from this product.

Has this ever been done with a broadcast spreader? If that's the case, which spreader should I use and what setting should I use?

We use a seed spreader on the back of a tractor as well as a push spreader to apply this product professionally at military bases and schools. Set it to the lowest setting because a little goes a long way, but keep in mind that the product has a very low residual, so only use it in areas where ant problems are widespread. Use a water activated product if you want to leave a lasting impression.

Is this product harmful to a backyard flock of free-range chickens?

We don't use it around our pets, and I wouldn't use it around grazers for the same reason.

Do you have any experience with twig ants?

It doesn't say which ant it is. It has, however, killed every ant I have fed it. Like all the other ant killers I've tried, it doesn't let them move more than a few feet away. Although it is not inexpensive, it is effective.

I'm a Brit living in the south of the United States. Fire Ants do not exist in the United Kingdom. So, despite having heard of them, when a nest of these beasts moved into a corner of my flower patch, I left them alone, as I quickly discovered that nothing could live with them - There were no bugs in my garden. As many Americans are aware, I was unable to coexist with them. I'd had enough after seventeen nests and enough bites to make even the most ferocious mosquitoes envious. Prepare for a barrage of WMDs. I tried drowning them with a hosepipe, then dug them up and blasted them with boiling water. br>War had been declared. Grits was one of the dishes I attempted. Diatomaceous earth was one of the options I considered. I experimented with every 'off-the-shelf' brand available at my neighborhood garden center. I went so far as to try to set them on fire. Despite this, all they did was give me the finger and back up six inches. br>I realized the issue was that some people always seemed to be able to get away from the carnage - They simply took an egg and established a new colony with the orphans from the nest I'd just destroyed (or something along those lines). As a result, as soon as one nest was destroyed, three more would appear nearby. br>Eventually, I approached a friendly landscape gardener and inquired about his methods. He offered some unpronounceable chemicals that were almost as poisonous to me as they were to Fire Ants when I checked them out. I couldn't look anywhere else because I didn't want to poison myself. br>In comes Advion's discovery. br>The tub arrives half-empty, stinks bad, and is ridiculously expensive, but it works, and at a rate that ensures my single purchase will last the entire year (and possibly longer). ) Its toxicity rating is also not comparable to that of other products on the market. Its active ingredient (Indoxacarb) is used in flea treatments for dogs and cats, for example. So I opened the lid flap and sprinkled lightly (as if from a spice jar) over the Fire Ant mounds, then waited to see what happened. The granules were taken into the nests by the little sods within minutes of being disturbed. br>The fact that it appears to be slow acting makes it the clear winner in terms of controlling these deviants. As a result, while some of them may believe they've escaped poisoning by establishing a new nest, it appears that the poisoning will eventually catch up with them. br>In a week, they went from seventeen nests to zero, and they haven't returned - However, if they do, I'll be ready. br>br>NOTE: if you're looking for a unique way to express yourself, this is the place to be This review was in no way influenced by a third party. I'm also not a company employee. I'm just a grateful British gardener who can now enjoy his English garden in a remote corner of the United States.

It performs admirably

My 1/4-acre yard in Eastern North Carolina was quickly infested with fire ants after I moved in. When they took over my raised garden AND my compost piles, I knew I had to act. I used a teeny-tiny amount of this stuff (a teaspoon or less) to cover the mounts and protect them from the rain. Three of the four original test mounds were completely depleted in less than a week. Another was in an inconvenient location, but it vanished after two weeks. I kept an eye on the area, but there was no sign that three of the four mounds had moved. It appears that they have recently died, which is exactly what I was looking for. The fourth mound remains a mystery to me. Although the original mound appeared to be abandoned, I discovered a "new" mound about 10 feet away. This COULD be proof that the mound moved, but it could also be a mound that had been there before but that I had overlooked until it grew larger. br>br>Overall, I'm pleased with this product; I chose to limit exposure by targeting individual mounds rather than using the broadcast method of application. Because the substance is bright yellow, it's easy to spot if it's been stolen. In small doses, it appears to be quite effective. br>br>A small amount of something can go a long way. I purchased a 2 pound jug, which should be sufficient for my yard and that of my neighbors for the time being.

This is an excellent product. My only gripe is that it is too expensive; otherwise, I don't understand why people complain that "it didn't work, did nothing, and produced no results. " "I'm perplexed by that because this stuff works fast: if I find a fire ant mound on my property, I lightly tap it with my foot, crushing a small portion of it (QUICKLY BECAUSE THOSE SUCKRS HURT LIKE HELL IF THEY BITE YOU), and thousands of fire ants swarm the entire mound. Then I cover the mound with advion. It wasn't coated or doused; it was simply covered, as if it were dusting. Then I dust the area around the mound in a two-foot radius. That mound was a lifeless pile of sand the next day! I mean, a lifeless pile of sand or dirt! One can lasted me a year. I put some in the fertilizer spreader and walked the grass all around the house to get the workers who go out foraging after I finished the concentrated treatment on the mounds. After that, I'd look for mounds every now and then and focus tract them. For about a year, I was able to keep the property in good shape.
