I've only had it up for a few months, but we get a lot of rain in the Pacific Northwest, and it's held up well so far. It's particularly lovely when the rain runoff cascades down the chain, causing the colors in the Lotus flowers to sparkle. We'll have to wait a year or so to see how things turn out.
I'm going to say "no," because a rain chain is a decorative alternative to a gutter system's downspout.
No, I didn't require any additional materials in order to hang the rain chain. It has a hook attached to it. However, your gutter setup may differ from mine, and you may need to add something to the inside of the gutter to hang the hook on. Maybe a dowel or a small piece of pipe; it's very simple to put together, and I'm happy with mine.

br>While watching it in the shower, I discovered a small trick. When the bottom cup is removed and turned upside down, the water'scatters' rather than forming a puddle in the grass. It's no longer necessary to have a bottom drain pan. It's also a good idea to spray the piece with a clear coat before hanging it - Thank you to the reviewer who made the suggestion.
This is wonderful and lovely. It's preferable to a dreadful chain. It's like having a natural water feature because the water runs more directly down it.
The separate rain gutter attachment piece is not required. One is included in the package. I turned the included one upside down, hooked the bottom most flower onto the included gutter attachment piece, and buried each end of it in the big bowl beneath the chain because I had ordered one. In a storm, it'll now stay put.
I'm really looking forward to putting this up. It's a WORK OF ART! Of course, it's summer in Oregon, so I'll have to wait a few months for rain, but it'll be in a gutter on the gazebo's edge. When it's ready, I'll post a photo.
I purchased two to erect from the second floor. I didn't know what to expect, but these are fantastic! Other ones with hummingbirds and bells, as well as copper leaves, were purchased. However, neither of these appeared to be very good, and neither of them performed well. These chains, on the other hand, have large color flowers and perform admirably. To replace the ones I already had, I had to order two more. They're a little on the pricey side, but they're well worth it. As a result, there are no bells, but there are some lovely flowers.
This is fantastic! It adds a nice splash of color to the room.
I had a new seamless gutter installed, with conical downspouts, and they were beautiful multicolored lily cups. I wanted to put the chains where the spouts would be. You'll have to cut a hole in the gutter (and buy a downspout) if you don't. Amazon's spout piece). We collected rainwater in large resin (cheap) planter pots filled with rock. Recently, we've had a couple of big rainstorms. The chains were extremely effective.
We love this rain chain, but I'm docking a star because the Amazon description stated that the t hangar was included, and there were no instructions on how to put it together. Our gutter, thankfully, has enough of a lip to allow us to hang it with the attached s hook. A few days after installation, we had a good rain, and it did a great job of slowing down the torrential rain (see video). We were planning to install a drain spout on the corner of our porch because water tends to collect there and cascade down, but we're glad we decided against it. I dug up any grass that hadn't been ruined by the rain and built a stone foundation for our water-catching cement rhubarb leaf. It came out looking fantastic.
