I purchased this mat to provide grip for my elderly father when he was getting out of bed on a wood floor. It is thin and stable, and served the purpose I needed.
As you told me, I just measured the mat with my construction grade tape measure and although I too was skeptical of its thickness, I am inclined to agree with its description. Approximately 11" tall. For the rope to be kept from hitting the floor, I'd imagine you'd need something more substantial.
There isn't a lot of room for error on the mat. Combining plastic and rubber, the material is sturdy and durable. You might be able to use it on carpeted floors.

Earlier today, the package arrived. Even before I've fully opened it, I'm already wondering what it will look like. On the box it says right away that this product exposes you to toxins like lead, which are both known to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm in the state of California. I won't let it into my house as I am cancer survivor. Depending on what the weather is, it will either be sent outside or returned. Exactly why do these things require chemicals that are so dangerous? Neither in the description nor in the product description did I notice that it contained chemicals.
When I saw this warning, I couldn't believe what I was seeing! Cancer-causing lead can be found in this product! My house is not suitable for this kind of thing. It would be fine if I could give no stars.
People who are responding to the California Prop 65 warning need to hear what I have to say. The Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986, which is known as Proposition 65, was enacted in California. There is a reputation for being ridiculously strict with regard to lead regulations. The levels for reporting lead are lower than natural levels found in the soil and in the vegetables we consume, even when organically grown. It is difficult for me to explain the issues with this proposition here because there is no room for it. There is no evidence that it is a sign of danger. A slight amount of texture provides it with a slight amount of slip resistance, while it is smooth enough to be easy to clean. Because our pet is an incredibly messy eater, we keep this under our pet dishes. There is no problem traversing it since it is not too thick. Our appreciation goes to the manufacturer, as it is a nice mat that we found at a fair.
I ordered this mat to use under my large dog crate as a floor protector. My floors will no longer be scratched by the metal. It fits perfectly.
