I haven't used it in the winter, but it appears to be weatherproof.
They don't shed, at least not in my experience. If they get a lot of use/traffic, I imagine they'll have to get rid of a couple. Overall, it's in nearly the same condition as when I first got it.
I'm assuming it's the plastic that's causing the problem. I've had this in my RV storage since I got it, and the odor hasn't been an issue.
My mat is still up on my porch, untouched by the wind.

It looks good, stays in place, and appears to be sturdy, but it is not clear whether it is intended for indoor or outdoor use. If you leave it outside and it rains, it will keep the water for several days. So it can go on a porch, under a stoop, or inside, unlike the "thatch" type mats that drain.
When the weather is dry, it's ideal for being outside. br>br>As soon as it starts to rain, all bets are off. It keeps the water in for days, causing the rug to become soggy and mildewy. If you don't want to track water all over the house, don't bother wiping your shoes off before entering. br>br>I have not yet tried it in the cold.
This doormat has made a big impression on me. It is not only attractive, but it also cleans shoes and does not slip when wiping feet on my laminate flooring. Love it. Heavy, sits well and flat, and collects all dirt and dust from entering shoes. For the cat litter, I'll get a second one. Because it traps dirt, it will most likely perform admirably.
The mat was comfortable under my feet and appeared to be in good condition, but I'm returning it due to the odor. It's been out in the open for three days and it's still stinking. It's as if you're sitting next to someone who is smoking. I can't believe how bad it smelled in my laundry room after only a few hours; it's so disappointing.
These were purchased in the hopes of catching dirt and grass from our shoes as we enter the house, and they do. They're great, and I have one at both the front and back doors. They clean up nicely after I vacuum them. They don't move when you move them.
Do not purchase this for use as a doormat. It is not only not waterproof, but it also retains water for several days. It's as if you're walking through a puddle of water when you step on it. Not for use in the open air.
