In order to attract songbirds and deter squirrels and bigger "bully" birds in the winter, I bought a new bird feeder and wanted to try a seed type designed to attract songbirds. The chickadees took a day to find the new seeds and accept them. Those who tried it soon wanted to join in as well. Several birds now visit me on a daily basis, including cardinals, titmice, Downys and Red-breasted Nuthatches Several woodpecker species live in the region, including red-bellied It usually takes the end of the day for the feeder to empty. I have not had any issues with squirrels or other animals so far either.
The item was purchased to encourage birds to fly around our apartment while we are at work to entertain my cat. It seems though that Bird TV keeps my cat riveted, since she's always on the edge of her seat when it's on. Her first visit to the window after breakfast has her running out of the room. Bird neighbors happily surprised by seed that fell from a bird feeder on the ground.
Pictured here are neighboring birds eating seed off the ground. Some of the smaller branches and twigs are taken by the birds, but I doubt that they have any effect. A couple of mourning doves have now become regulars, as well as a few sparrows I have yet to identify, and there isn't a pigeon in sight.
This item was a good value for the price. My money was well spent because I got so much for it.
There is no doubt about it. I will be purchasing more Cardinals in the future. Now that my birds have disappeared, I got a mix from Tractor Supply. Learning from this mix it's the best mix for me.
The seeds are packed in this and birds love it. They're also free of low quality "filler" that tends to be found in seed bags and that's okay with the birds. The birds love the feeder when it's filled with this. It would have been nice if the bag was resealable, but it's a small quibble.
I find myself using it a lot more than I should because I have a whole family of cardinals. It is really hard to get them to leave so I have to chase the squirrels away.
Those seeds are a big hit with our picky bird. A bird seed would be thrown down the cage if it hated small birdseed. The problem is they are the right shape, color, and size for him.
I noticed that it had a bunch of twigs and stuff and that it isn't It wasn't a huge deal to the birds but I had to pay for twigs therefore it was a big deal for me.
