Questions & Answers

Is it true that mice eat spicy foods?

Mice, being mammals, I don't think they'll be able to take the heat from the pepper on the seeds. Squirrels and chipmunks, for example, are unlikely to consume it.

This was purchased to keep the squirrels at bay, but now my birds are causing me financial hardship! Oh, my goodness! I bought these seeds because I was tired of filling up my feeders only to have them raided by squirrels on a daily basis and being eaten out of house and home
5/5

Squirrels have lost interest, which is great news, but it's winter, and my birds are devouring the seed, and I can't keep up! I mean, first thing in the morning, I go out and 1/4 fill three feeders with these meats [I'm conditioned to only fill to the quarter mark because the squirrels used to devour a full one in two days]. , and now the birds empty me out before the end of the day, so I'm in and out replenishing my supplies. My sunflower and safflower seeds are in two other feeders, with Nyjer seed and finally a peanut tray being the favorites [filet mignon for my birds], and they are relentless at my sunflower meats feeders. It's a lovely site, but I think I'll need to get another job:.

Squirrels don't claw their faces off when they're fed hot meats
5/5

This seed has been in my possession for the past two years. My squirrel feeder is now devoid of squirrels. Previously, one to four squirrels would be constantly on and around my bird feeder, which is suspended from a beam on my back porch pergola. Despite the fact that the feeder was protected by a plastic dome, they would slide down the cable, grab the bird rest with their back legs, stretch out, and slide off the dome. OR they'd leap from my house's brick wall into the feeder, knocking seed to the ground and feasting. The squirrels were immediately stopped after this seed was planted. None. Gone. I'm guessing they can smell the hot sauce and decide not to eat it. They don't try to get at it, so I've never seen a squirrel spend an entire day attempting to get at the seed, finally knocking some to the ground and eating it, only to discover it's covered in hot sauce and clawing their face off trying to remove it. (For whatever reason, whoever posted that piece of information is promoting an urban legend. ) Let me give you an example. Because this seed is quite costly, I decided to try some cost-cutting techniques. I half-filled my feeder with regular seed and then added Hot Meats on top. I figured that by the time the squirrels realized there was regular seed in the feeder, I'd have moved on to the Hot Meats and they'd be gone. WRONG. They were back to sliding, stretching, grabbing, and jumping within 30 minutes of knowing regular seed was in the feeder. I emptied the feeder and replaced it with all Hot Meats, and I haven't seen another squirrel since. Ever. It's just birds.

Squirrels and chipmunks won't be able to empty your feeder if you use this
4/5

This is something I really enjoy. For my yard, I've now limited myself to hot meats seed and suet because I was simply going through too much product due to squirrels and chipmunks eating everything - All of the song birds are still happy with the seeds, while woodpeckers and other meat eaters are happy with the suet. br>However, I believe that the price should be reduced. It is not that expensive to buy red pepper. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is because of the price.

Squirrels have a score of 0 and birds have a score of 100
5/5

Yes, it really does work. For at least the past eight years, I've been a Cole's customer. It's all good for the birds. My feeders are almost never raided by squirrels. The seed quality is excellent and consistent. To avoid inhaling cayenne dust, use caution when dispensing it and wash your hands thoroughly afterward to avoid rubbing it into your eyes. It can be quite unpleasant! When the temperature is lower, When squirrels are in high demand (when the acorns are ripe), I mix 50 percent black sunflower seeds with 50 percent white sunflower seeds. 50 with Coles to save a few dollars.

It is extremely popular among birds
5/5

Squirrels, on the other hand, do not have this problem. Songbirds and squirrels abound on our property, which is bordered by a small woods. I've tried other squirrel-deterrent birdseeds before, but this is the first one that actually works as advertised. Squirrels will gaze longingly at the birdfeeder. I've even seen one jump onto the supporting pole above it, but it only hopped down rather than onto the feeder. They appear to have realized that this food is not to their liking. br>br>Don't get me wrong: I adore squirrels and feed them in a different location, but they are not welcome at the bird feeder. br>br>This product comes highly recommended!.

The squirrels aren't even close! It is extremely effective
5/5

No four- The feeder was investigated by furry creatures with four feet. It is pricey, but when you consider that at least half of regular sunflower hearts are fed to squirrels rather than birds, it isn't so bad. The only issue I've had with my feeder was when I first filled it. I didn't wash my hands properly afterward, and I ended up rubbing one of my eyes. Ouch! br>br>Aside from that, I don't have any complaints. Just keep in mind that it won't arrive right away (at least not in my case), so don't wait until you're down to your last two days of seed.

Some squirrels don't seem to mind (or prefer hot salsa)
4/5

This is the second time I've ordered it, and so far it's been satisfactory. It's better for wild birds than the other hot "treats," but I have at least two squirrels who think it's salsa. It amazes me because it burns my hands so badly if they come into contact with it that I have to wash them repeatedly, and now I have a pair of gloves that I wear when I put it in the bird feeder that is also supposed to be squirrel-proof. They figured out how to lean out from the pole, grab the feeder's top, and eat a long time ago. However, I honestly believed that the Hot Meats would be too spicy for them. I'm guessing there's no such thing as too hot. I had hope when I saw the first squirrel eating it hop down and rub his or her face on the ground back and forth, but after catching at least two squirrels at it and scaring away the birds, I'm going back to the slingshot method.

Squirrels are okay, but birds aren't
5/5

This bird seed is habanero hot and already shelled, and it attracts a lot of birds. Even doves visit the feeder to take a seat. The rodents' mouths are burned, so they learn to avoid it. There will be no more hordes of bushy-tailed rats once the word has spread. The seeds that fall to the ground are already shelled, so they don't sprout, leaving no unwelcome growth in the well-kept flower garden. When compared to upscale shops that sell small bags for high prices, purchasing a large bag on Amazon Prime is very cost effective.
