Questions & Answers

I'm not sure what I'd need to make this work. ?

You'll need a ridged suction hose and a soft discharge hose, both of which are 4" long.

Will this pump be able to remove water from a 14-course basement?

Without a doubt. At an alarming rate, I lifted water 90 feet vertically and 300 feet total.

Is it possible to use this pump as a firefighting pump with the right nozzle? I live on a lake in Alaska, where there is plenty of water. ?

Yes, I have one with a 500 gallon tank set up. With the 2" intake and a 1 1/2" fire hose and a 1" hose reel, I was able to get good water pressure and a good distance with the cheap nozzles available at just about any lumber yard or farm supply.

How long does it take to prime this pump, and how can I speed up the process?

This isn't a self-priming pump, so don't expect it to work right away. The top of the pump housing has an access hole for pre-cleaning. Fill the pump and hose halfway with liquid. If you're still having issues, call Andrew Miller, the DuroMax Service Manager, at 800 629-4444. Ext. 208, 3325

For 2 minutes, I worked on it
3/5

We were able to use the item the first time we tried it. It took less than two minutes. Four months later, we attempted to use it again. Fluids have been replaced, and the carburetor has been thoroughly cleaned. Nothing. For whatever reason, I could not get it to start. For several years, I worked in a small engine plant. I'm familiar with small engines as a result. This is a complete waste of time. Their customer service representatives appear to have a list of five questions prepared for them to ask, such as. . . "Can you tell me if it's got gas in it?" "Did you set it down on a flat surface?" " This business is a waste of time. They do not stand behind their products in any way.

I own four of these pumps because they are excellent value for money
5/5

Aloha Pool Water is the name of my company. We only deliver water in large quantities. With the exception of the pump, which could be of higher quality, I've had very few issues with these pumps. However, I run over a million gallons through each one every year, with a few of them exceeding two million. I get about 2 to 3 years out of them. The ability to change the discharge direction to suit my mounting needs on our trailers was the main reason I bought them. Because the engines are exact honda knockoffs, I use factory honda air filters and mufflers to keep them running. When the vent on the gas cap on a full tank of gas does not vent properly, the motor dies. It also happens to Honda motors when you open the cap a little and they run perfectly.

Pumping is not an option! I got the pump, made my suction side hose, made my discharge hose, checked the oil, and put gas in the tank
3/5

It started on the first pull, but wouldn't pull water out of my canal with a 12 ft hose, which was 3 feet below the pump. When I contacted customer service, they informed me that I would require a foot valve. That was never stated in the description when I purchased it, but oh well. Later, I spent $200 on a cast 4" foot valve to keep the water in the 12' X 4' hose. I removed the flapper, or check valve, that is part of the gasket on the pump's intake side, so that when I fill it, it fills the hose all the way down to my foot valve. Even after filling everything up, the water pump will not work!.

reliable
5/5

I'm not sure what warm, stretch, or suction power have to do with the pump. Perhaps the last one, but it doesn't ring true. Regardless, prior to purchasing, I read a lot of negative reviews about this product. I basically received this item, checked for oil, and have been using it to transfer haul water from truck to holding tank about once a week. It always starts on the first pull and goes from the back of the truck into the shed without any maintenance (I'm a rough tool) and it always starts on the first pull. So far, I'm pleased with my purchase, and it was well worth the money.

Pump performs as expected
5/5

A burst of water is released by the pump! The first pull is usually the trigger. Isn't too noisy. Has shut- off valve to prevent gasoline from sitting in the carburetor and evaporating, causing lacquer buildup. Hoses aren't included. Purchase a metal strainer at the same time as your hoses. The plastic one that came with it broke the first time I used it. It's still dependable and simple to start after a year of intermittent use. br>When the engine wouldn't start this winter, I put a teaspoon of gasoline in the spark plug hole and it started right up. In cold weather, the choke obviously isn't strong enough.

I was pleased with this pump until the intake flapper broke off after 80 hours
3/5

The engine is simple to start and maintain. The pump then wouldn't prime after 80 hours of operation because the suction intake flapper valve had broken off. A steel disc is encased in rubber and serves as the flapper valve. Soft rubber makes up the rubber that surrounds the flapper valve, the hinge, and the gasket that seals the fitting. I'm surprised it's still going strong after all these years. It will eventually break; in my case, water and mud got inside the rubber casing surrounding the steel flapper plate and deformed the rubber. It was never able to keep the prime water in for an extended period of time. br>br>Anyway, things happen, parts break, and I'll fix it. This pump's parts are not available for purchase. Duromax was the number I dialed. They are refusing to honor the warranty because I purchased it from Amazon. The customer service representative advised that they begin an Amazon return and that it would be delivered to them. This item is clearly non-returnable, according to Amazon. That's all there is to it; the story comes to an end there. No third-party shadiness because it is sold and shipped by Amazon Services LLC. br>br>After one month, the pump fails, rendering it useless. THE PART WILL NOT BE SOLD BY DURomax AT ALL. DS40- is the part number for the flapper valve gasket. It has the model number 32030 and is only available through their warranty. br>br>[Update 12/30/2021] I reached out to Duromax again and spoke with a different representative. This one simply requested that I email him a copy of my Amazon receipt as well as a description of the problem, and a new flapper valve should be on its way shortly. Despite this, I've discovered that local big box stores sell this pump. If you have one of those nearby, consider buying it there so you'll have somewhere to return it if Amazon or Duromax aren't cooperating today. br>br>[Update 1/21/2022]br>[Update 1/21/2022]br>[Update 1/21/2022]br>[Update 1/21/2022]br>[Update 1/21/2022]br>[Update 1/21/2022]br>There is On Amazon, I paid $150 for a 4" foot valve for my suction hose's submerged end. This should enable me to prime the suction hose and pump housing by filling them with water. The foot valve is made of cast iron and uses common parts, making it simple to repair if the seal fails. br>br>It's a shame that this pump doesn't have any weak or consumable parts. My advice is to purchase it somewhere where you can return it. The warranties provided by Duromax and Amazon were not honored. The small rubber tabs at the top of the round flapper valve can be seen in the photos I've posted. The valve is only held open by this.

Purchase is not recommended
3/5

When it came time to use it, it was received in March 2018 and was kept unopened until August 2018. For the start-up, I strictly followed the instructions in the book. The engine started right up, but within a minute, either the engine or the water pump had locked up. I contacted technical support and ran through all of the steps they recommended. I got it unlocked, but it locked up again after three pulls. I'm a motorcycle mechanic, so I know a thing or two about engines and pumps. I'm trying to reach out to someone about the warranty procedure, but I'm having no luck, so my advice is to buy locally from a well-known brand.
