Make sure you are careful when purchasing. In spite of the sturdy stainless steel of the body of the unit, the welds which hold it together are not stainless steel. I used this at the beach in saltwater and it shows signs of rust on the inside. Even after several attempts to wash it off in fresh water, it continues to rust. I will return this unit and look for one that is better and honestly built. As a result of continued use and the accumulation of rust, this product will eventually fall apart. Therefore, this is false advertising by Amazon that needs to be addressed. There should be a majority of "stainless steel" in the product description.

My first experience with this scoop is that I have yet to use it. The following is just a brief review based on my first impressions based on my experiences using other scoops. In terms of strength, it seems quite sturdy when compared to the size and material it is made of. However, I feel that the handle hole is too small for it's size and shape. However, comparing it to my other scoops, I'm afraid that it will not have enough volume to be as effective as my other scoops. If I remember to update this post after using it on a CPLD outing, I'll post an update.

There was a greater level of quality than I had anticipated. The sand scoop is very well built, and with my 7 years of metal detecting, I can tell that it is well-made.
If you're looking for a quality scoop then this one is the one you want. I've used it in the water and also on the beach, and it works great. It is portable, and I just keep it in my car.

In Florida, we detected the beaches of the Gulf Coast with this scoop while on our Honeymoon. It worked like a charm! While there I picked up a dowel rod which would be used as a long handle for the knife. After the wood swelled, we could not pull the handle out to fit into our luggage to make it fit, so we shipped it to home via UPS. A small handle that we screwed on during shipping was broken because it was left screwed on. A new screw was promptly sent to me by the seller after I contacted them to purchase a replacement For free when you hold the handle! I always strive to exceed my expectations! You should give them a try.

This is one of the best built houses ever. As soon as you get them, you can see why they're so expensive. BUT the INSIDE plastic handle keeps coming unscrewed despite attempts to rescrew it, and which is incredibly annoying. It should have just been welded in to keep it in place. The scoop isn't exactly right for the beach and is a little too small.

Using a Clevis Pin to attach a wooden handle to the scoop, I purchased a long wooden handle for $10 at Home Depot and it worked great the first time I used it. Even digging in wet sand with this scoop was not a problem as it is very heavy duty. It would be a good item to buy.
