You should be able to get by with 40002. My 40001A was unable to be installed. It's a nice edger, so have fun with it.
It functioned flawlessly with my Ryobi.
As long as you have the two-piece shaft, the answer is yes. This is what I use with my 40v trimmer.
It connects to your existing power tool and charges it with the included battery. I returned this item because it lacked the necessary power to complete the task.

I just got my edger today and put it to use right away. It seems to use a lot of power (40V power head), but I think I had the blade cutting way too deep on a long edge that hadn't been edged in a long time. It did a great job, though, and I have no complaints. I'd suggest it. br>NOTE: THIS PAGE HAS BEEN UPDATED. Adjusted the blade depth to about 1" and it worked great and didn't overwork the motor at all, resulting in very low power consumption.
This is a fantastic tool that I strongly recommend. It's both light and tough. I also own the Ryobi Expand-It's edger and blower, and I'm very pleased with them. The battery appears to be depleted more quickly than with the edger.
After recently completing an edging project, I can confidently say that I am pleased with this purchase. If you let go of the trigger, wait a few seconds, and try again, the tool appears to automatically shut off if there is too much resistance, but if you let go of the trigger, wait a few seconds, and try again, it will start right up! The curved shaft allows for easier handling and requires less effort; highly recommended for those, like myself, who are just starting to build a customized Ryobi tool collection.
It kept coming to a halt, as if it had become overheated. There would be a beep from the battery. The box looked battered when it arrived, as if it had been returned or refurbished. That's when I realized I should've returned it.
I was a beast at work! I discovered my sidewalk was 6 inches wider than I could see in just a few minutes. (I recently purchased the home) It's simple to use, and I can't say enough about how well it functions. 20 stars.
It performs admirably. For the mud/grass that collects around the blade and cover, I deducted one star. Although this is to be expected, I believe that a little more space in the cover area would be beneficial. Aside from that, there's a lot of cutting ability. My Ryobi has four strokes.
I did everything an edger shouldn't be used for, and it held up. It's well worth it if you have a Ryobi trimmer with a straight shaft.
love this.
