Questions & Answers
The inside dimension of the rain barrel's end is one inch.
My 55 gallon plastic barrel drum worked perfectly with it. There hasn't been any leakage thus far. Make sure to wrap the teflon tape around the threads at least 8 times.
I read the instructions that came with it, and there are no requirements for the rain barrel thickness. I used a plastic outdoor trash can, which worked perfectly; I hope this information is useful!
The threads on the spigot are 5/8" long, and you must get the nut on and secure it, according to the instructions. For the barrel wall, I wouldn't go any thicker than 3/8". Make the best decision you can.

Valve has a nice appearance, but it's a little difficult to turn at first. The finish isn't perfect, and the threads are a little jagged, but it'll suffice. The ball valve is made of plastic (as is typical of ball valves); I don't see a way to replace them if they wear out right now, and I'm not sure how long they'll last. To me, having access to high-quality content for no cost is appealing. It's more convenient than looking for parts in a hardware store because everything you need comes with the valve. br>The valve is well-packaged and includes a string as well as plenty of teflon tape. This appears to be a waste of money, given that most people already have these items on hand, and that multiple valves can be ordered. Is it possible to order the string and tape separately for a reasonable price? br>The bulkhead and nut are already attached to the valve, and they must be removed. I couldn't at first, but then it occurred to me to turn the nut in the opposite direction. Bingo! Left- threads that are handed! The otherwise comprehensive instruction sheet makes no mention of this. It's a minor annoyance, but it'd be nice to know ahead of time. This, along with the sharp threads, is why I'm taking a star off; if I could, I'd take half off. br>Fairly simple installation; the instructions even specify the drill bit size; the hardest part for me was making a hook out of hanger wire to catch the string; the seal appears to be good; we'll see how it holds up when the barrel is full.
For the price, this appears to be an excellent product. I like the quarter-turn knob operation, but instead of cast aluminum, I'd prefer it to be made of a stronger metal. br>As another reviewer pointed out, removing the set nut from the inside part is difficult, and it's worth noting that it's a left-hand thread. However, I was able to disassemble it with ease using my vice and channel locks. br>Installation was simple because all you need is a single USB port. 1/4-inch hole saw, pocket knife, and channel locks are all you'll need, and it'll go a lot faster if you have someone to hold the string and pull on the fitting while you tighten the outer nut. br>Overall, I would highly recommend this as a rain barrel DIY project.
I have three 55 gallon water storage barrels that I keep on hand in case our power goes out or our well fails. I looked into the cost of ready-made storage and found that it ranges from $85 to $200, depending on the maker or seller. My spigot was $16 and the barrel was $18. A water storage that costs $34 is preferable to one that is pre-made. br>br>Get this spigot if you need something for a water storage barrel. Drilling a hole in the barrel and fastening the spigot together takes about 15 minutes. Before completely filling each of the three barrels, I checked for leaks. These spigots haven't leaked in a long time! br>br>This product comes highly recommended!.
This is one you should purchase. Three of the four Earthminded spigots leak between the barrel and the rubber seal, which I made three months ago. In all three cases, silicone sealing is required. I slightly shifted the angle of a connector tube with the spigot a few days ago, which resulted in a leak between the rubber seal and the Earthminded spigot. This indicates that the current setup will not last long and that a change will be required. This spigot is the only one with the same tube diameter (1 1/4") as Earthminded, and it doesn't require any additional drilling. It took me only ten minutes to complete the installation. I'll be ordering three more to replace all of the Earthminded spigots.
We tried calling the company, but no one answered. We can't remove the brass fitting that's supposed to be threaded on a guide wire inside the barrel to attach to the spigot on the outside; there's a gasket on that fitting, and it's tightened so solidly that it won't move to separate the outside part from the fitting that's supposed to go inside. Please call back, said the message on the line.
This valve was well-made in every way. The threads are silky and silky smooth. The brass bulkhead connection has a solid feel to it. It is easy to operate the valve lever. Even the packaging was done well. br>br>I put it in the bottom of a window-mounted swamp cooler to make draining it a breeze. Perfect!br>br>In the future, I would consider this and other Renator hardware.
Although I have not yet used the kit, it is well-packaged and appears to be of high quality. You could probably get the individual pieces cheaper if you went out and bought them separately, but with the kit, you get exactly what you need and don't have to go to the hardware store 15 times. This is an excellent product.
Despite the fact that I have yet to install the spigot, it appears to be a high-quality product that is exactly what I needed. It was delivered on time. I didn't install it right away because my project plans changed, and I didn't need the barrel right away. If anything changes, I'll let you know, but I'm guessing I'll put this together, then do another, using the same spigot.
