Questions & Answers

I'd like to purchase a longer fill hose. Is this something you can do?

A sump pump hose with a diameter of 25 inches will suffice. Simply ensure that it is properly supported so that it does not sag.

Is it possible to purchase the diverter and hose separately? Is it possible to purchase a longer length of hose from you?

Yes, the diverter is available for purchase separately from the barrel, but not on Amazon = RainBarrelParts is the place to go.

Is there any kind of filter on this? Will debris clog the intake or end up in the rain barrel if it enters the downspout?

To keep the water flowing to your downspout diverter, you should use a downspout filter instead of a gutter screen. Gutter screens can and will become clogged with debris and pollen, rendering them ineffective. Gutter covers still have a gap through which debris can fall into the gutter tray and be washed down. Downspout Filters are a better option. Installed in a convenient location for maintenance and monitoring. From trap to open face, there are a variety of options available. //www. aquabarrel is a term used to describe a container that holds water com/downspout-spoutspoutspoutspoutspout filters-

Simple to set up
3/5

Operation was poor. EDIT: I've included a customer image to demonstrate the device's primary flaw: br> Includes hole sawsbr>- br>br>Cons: The design is simple, making installation simple. br>br>
- Plastic spigot for a ridiculously low price. I went out and spent about $8 on a metal quarter-turn ball valve to solve the problem.
- Gutter guards aren't needed because the insert plugs them. We've had a few heavy rainstorms recently, and I've noticed that mulch from a few beds has washed away. I walked out to see our gutter overflowing with water during one of them. The next day, I took the insert out of the gutter and discovered that it was completely plugged with 6-inch long pieces of wood. Pine needles and mini pine cones from nearby white pines measure 12" in length. Our basement was wet in that spot the next day, so it appears that all of the water overflowing the gutters caused some problems. br>- In the downspout, the insert creates quite a blockage. Even though the hole was drilled several inches down the barrel, I've seen the top of our rainbarrel overflow during particularly heavy rains. If I had the time, I'd dig out my old fluid dynamics textbooks and figure out how much water it would take to completely fill a 2x3" duct, then convert it to a 1. 5" diameter circular hole With that large of an obstruction, I'm willing to bet that it's possible to cause a major backup in the downspout. A downspout backup will push more water into the barrel, causing it to overflow, or even overflowing all the way up to the gutters. br>br>It's not worth saving a few gallons of rainwater to avoid water on the foundation. This system is installed in two rainbarrels that I own. I'm going to go with the Fiskars design for the one that gets a lot of flow. It expands the gutter, potentially allowing for more overflow during heavy rains.

The rain barrel and down spout, both of which were costly, were destroyed
3/5

This is not my first rain barrel installation; I already have two others that collect water well and were installed quickly and cleanly. Despite my reservations, I installed this kit despite the fact that it is made of dreadful cheap material. I'm sorry I didn't think of it sooner. My drain spout was ripped apart by the drill piece, which snagged and ripped through it. The pieces of plastic began to leak. As a result, I tried to fix it by drying everything out and sealing it with silicone. It was only after that that I noticed that if you tried to attach a hose to the PLASTIC spigot, it would simply disintegrate. Not only that, but it happened several days later, following a heavy downpour. This massive puddle is directly beneath my rain barrel, as I can see. A major leak resulted from a cheap plastic spigot breaking. Before the water could do any more damage, we had to manually empty the barrel with pots and pans. I gave Amazon everything I could. However, I have spent 120 on the rain barrel, downspout, and top soil to repair the damage caused by this shoddy kit.

Customer who was once a skeptic has now become a fan
4/5

So far, it's doing an excellent job. It's been a month since I installed it and there have been no issues. I've heard complaints about the plastic upper valve, but I've also read that plastic water barrels can react chemically with brass. br>I took a star off because I'm not looking forward to hunting down the winterizing cap when the time comes, and I'm hoping I don't lose it before then. I'm also dreading the prospect of damaging my downspout when I have to remove it for winterizing. However, it received a high rating because the design eliminates the need for an additional overflow hose. This single design element is what kept me from launching other products a year earlier. However, during the installation process, you must measure twice and cut once. The overflow will only work if you follow the instructions to the letter, such as keeping the hose level between the barrel and the downspout tap - There will be no drooping of the shoulders. br>Here's a tip for other buyers: For draining or hose hookup, there's a tap and cap you put on the bottom. I strongly advise you to purchase an inline 1/4 turn valve so that you can only use it when necessary. Or, if you don't want to draw water, attach a short hose that can go above the waterline and pull it up. For at least the first year, keep the hose clear so you can see where the water level is. After that, a clear hose will most likely be ruined by the sun and water. br>I found out that I use a lot more water than I thought, and that my rain barrel will only last a week or ten days. Consider it for a moment. Every day, five gallons of water are used to water all of your outdoor plants. barrel with a capacity of 50 gallons 10 days is a conservative estimate. I recommend filling a 5 gallon bucket with water (e. g. , with water from your hose) before investing in a rain barrel. Then see how much of it you use from the Home Depot "small trip" orange bucket. It's possible that you'll need a second or third barrel.

Massive runoff caused by light rain! This scrawny old lady still has a few tricks up her sleeve
5/5

I've had two 55 gallon drums sitting in the corner of my yard waiting for a rain barrel conversion kit like this one. The sight of me straddling the barrel to drill the holes may have amused neighbors with windows overlooking my yard, but at the end of the day, I had one perfectly functional rain barrel. I also bought a brass faucet to replace the plastic one that came with the kit, after reading another review. The plastic faucet appears to be in good working order. It appears to be a suitable heavy-duty vehicle. I'll probably use it on the other barrel once I figure out where the best downspout would be. It should have been equally amusing to get the interior ring into the hole from the outside (because my barrel's lid isn't removable), but it worked out. br>br>The instructions were detailed and easy to follow, with instructions for various barrel types. br>br>With the exception of the drill and pipe sealant tape, the kit contains everything you'll need to convert a drum into a rain barrel. br>br>Because I placed a two-for-one deal, I now own two sets of hole saws as a result of this purchase. It would have been less expensive ((Have you seen the current pricing! ) and it makes sense that it was packaged as a two-part set. One set of saws is included in the pack. In addition, there will be less clutter in the toolbox. Nonetheless, this was a fantastic purchase.
