The weather in southern North Carolina (Southern USA) begins to warm up in May when it reaches 90 degrees or higher. The difficulty of growing cold-loving vegetables is extreme, such as cabbage, broccoli, lettuce, cauliflower, onions, and virtually any other. So I decided to cover the plants in shade cloth and have discovered it is possible to grow broccoli in the south on hot summer days! It is hard to imagine how such a simple piece of fabric could create such a dramatic change. The broccoli and lettuce in my garden have all grown There is only one problem, the outside of the broccoli is becoming stringy and trying to flower faster while the middle is still tightly grouped It is only natural to assume that heat or even drought is causing this to happen, because my corn is already tasseling and it doesn't even reach chest height (stunted/short corn stalks and tassels=heat However, besides that one minor obstacle, I am able to grow whole heads of lettuce and broccoli once again. In an open garden, this size would be perfect for a raised bed or a wide row. Durable, lightweight, and woven in such a way that the wind crosses through, this is a perfect choice for a windbreaker. At the time of this writing I am ordering two more of them and I can't thank you enough for such a great product. Do not use those solid fabric sheets that do not have holes, as they block too much light, however they are perfect for weed blocking. Whenever your cooler loving veggies need a little help, this is what they need. Within hours, you will notice the difference. I find 30% shade to be adequate for my needs, but if you live out west or even further south, perhaps a stronger shade unit would make more sense.

My husband loves growing In the past year, we faced a huge challenge with aphids that had a detrimental effect on our plants' growth. Lady bug were necessary, but we feared they would all fly away before we had got to the bottom of our little problem. Shade plays a big part in all this. As a result of hanging the shade over this area of our garden, we were able to restrict light and water reaching the plants while also accommodating the ladybugs. After a few days we noticed that the aphids had all disappeared and we were happy with how things were going. As we raised the shade, we installed it more as a shade versus a cover for the gazebo. only after they were good and full and the shade was lifted that our little lady bugs were able to take off. It was a great experience to be able to care for our plants in an organic manner. There were quite a few saved by this shade of gray. recommend this to anyone who needs to reduce the amount of solar radiation in an area without completely cutting it off, as we did, or who simply wants to reduce the amount of sunlight in an area.

This was a very disappointing experience- The amount I bought before is nowhere near what I bought now! There is no double seam on the border
Grommets on the top- There are no bungee cords and the plastic snaps are inexpensive and quick to install. Material is thinned out compared to my other mats My other order was even shorter than this one My mind would have been made up if I had known I would pay a few more dollars
To get the quality I wanted! There will never be a second time.

Three days after I bought my tomatoes, I was able to see a difference. I covered them with shade cloth after they were 5ft tall and no blooms appeared due to excessive heat.
