Questions & Answers

Will squerrals die as a result of these?

Yes, they work well for squirrels; however, I'm not sure what "squerrals" are; they appear to be a mythical creature found only in the Fire Swamps, and Westley and Buttercup had to kill the ones they encountered with a sword.

Has anyone tried them on ground squirrels, and if so, how well did they work?

Chipmunks (ground squirrels) are what we use them for now. They perform admirably. Set up the trap and use black sunflower seeds as bait. To keep larger animals from stealing the traps, we had to secure them with tent stakes.

Are there any removable bait cups available for purchase or rental?

One batch of traps had bait cups that broke the first or second time each trap snapped (the tabs at the bottom were the ones that failed). I emailed the manufacturer, who promptly sent me a bag of 25 replacement cups; I haven't had any cups break in over a year, so I believe it was just a bad batch.

Is this a newer version of Tomcat Secure-Server? rat trap that will kill you? a safe environment Kill is effective, but it only lasts for one rat. ?

I had no issues with the previous version, and I prefer this one because I can remove the bait portion; I'm getting mice, rats, and chipmunks. It has lasted several kills for me before the trap needs to be replaced.

It was a negative experience
3/5

I put some peanut butter in the bait cup, set the trap, and the rat was caught within a few hours; unfortunately, the trap clamped down on him but did not kill him. For half an hour, he struggled and jumped around, until I had no choice but to go out and finish the job. Not fun. After looking at all of the other rat traps, I don't see anything that appears to be any more effective, so I've changed my rating from 2 to 3 stars. I believe that if the spring was a little stronger and the trap was a little heavier, it would be more humane. br>br>Recent changes: br>br> I purchased a set of four Kat Sense Rat Traps, which worked flawlessly. a lot more caring These should be replaced with Kat Sense traps.

Master Splinter is no longer alive
5/5

Great set-up! It brought an end to a two-week battle with a naughty rat who had been gnawing on everything edible in my garage. It looted and evaded both an electric and a traditional wooden rat trap, eating everything in/on both traps without setting them off. It also dodged every pellet gun shot I fired at it, just like Neo from The Matrix! It was finally brought to an end by this trap, which is simple to set and bait and has a high pressure sensitivity, making it an effective killing tool. I'd choose one of these over other traps without hesitation. br>br>Recent changes - Since then, Templeton, Pinky, and the Brain have all died as a result of this trap. I'm running out of names, so I'm hoping this isn't the start.

It worked perfectly, and the first attempt was a success- Pictures can be found here

Late last week, I noticed a rat on my patio, and over the weekend, I discovered rat poop. This trap was purchased on Amazon. It arrived the day before yesterday, and I set it up last night. When I awoke this morning, I checked the trap, and sure enough, a large rat had been caught. br>br>A few days ago, I went to Home Depot and purchased a couple of old-school wooden Tomcat traps, which I promptly set (I didn't want to wait for my snap trap to arrive). One of them had been licked clean without even setting off the trap when I checked them the next morning. The other, on the other hand, was left alone. br>br>This snap trap performed admirably. I didn't want the trap to snap on my neighbor's cat, so I cut holes in a box (large enough for the rat but small enough for the cat), placed the box over the set trap, taped the box to the ground, and placed a chair on top of the box for added weight. This also kept the trap from being carried away after the rat was caught in it. I was concerned that the trap would become dislodged due to its light weight. Take a look at the images below. Tonight, I'm going to set it up again to see if I can catch another rat. I'm not sure how many people are hanging out in my neighborhood. Take a look at the images below. br>br>ADDITIONAL INFORMATION TO THE ORIGINAL POST: Last night, I re-set the trap and caught a second rat. In three days, that's two large rats.

I'm a rat trap snob who refuses to admit it
5/5

I recently relocated to a piece of undeveloped land in New Mexico, where coyotes have been heavily hunted to the point where rodents have taken over.
I. Am. Not. Kidding. br>I caught 18 ground squirrels, 67 wood rats, 61 kangaroo rats, and 20 field mice from mid-March to early-June. In three months, 165 rodents have been captured. I also didn't mention the rabbits (which I also shoot). br>br>These traps, victor traps, and clones of these have all been tried. We've even used live catch traps (in which the inmates are shot) with success. br>br>While these snap hard enough to kill most rats, extra large rats will sometimes use them as hats until they are put down. All traps lose force or break down over time, but these last the longest and perform the best, so they're worth the extra money.

The release tab, not the cup, should be covered in peanut butter
4/5

For someone who grew up with wooden traps that would sometimes fall apart while being set, this is a pretty impressive trap. The large size, the staples that could pull out while you set it, or if you moved the trap, it would go off and flip through the air, are all nerve-wracking and dangerous. Without a doubt, they would kill rodents. For the squirrels that wreak havoc on our gardens, I purchased one of these Tomcat traps. I was certain that if I was apprehended, I would be unable to flee. I've noticed something interesting. The red squirrels in this area are athletic, having been fed peanuts by neighbors and having gotten into dog food. They are sleek and strong, with amazing reflexes. After resetting the trap 10 times, I only found a couple of hairs in the peanut butter. The squirrels are even better than the trap. I even screwed it to the fence vertically because I figured there was no way a squirrel could get down and back out in time. My assumptions were incorrect. I spent $45 on an "electric chair" with 7000 volts. Let's see how things turn out. I know I'm not going to be able to defeat an army of squirrels, but I might be able to get a few. For mice and rats, the Tomcat trap is probably fine. br>OK Update as of May 12, 2018. The squirrel is deviously clever, and the trap has a flaw in its design. The CUP is located well below the tab that triggers the jaws to open. He slips in and licks off the peanut butter with his tongue, avoiding the trap entirely. Remove the cup from the equation. Spread peanut butter on the spring's actual release tab.

For big rats, this is ideal
5/5

There are eight rats and a slew of mice, with more on the way. Out here in the woods, there are a lot of big rats. As big as a Chihuahua. No one has managed to get away. Mice were able to lick the bait and then scoot away. So I began pressing down on the plate and came to a halt just as it was about to trigger. I test it by pushing the plate down with one hand while holding the trap open with the other. This is a hair-trigger situation. It triggers if I press down too hard. Since then, not a single thing has gotten away. I also switched from peanut butter to almond butter because almond butter is thicker and cannot be licked from the bait cup. XXX:.
