I don't think you have to, but if the rodent dies within smelling distance, you might as well. The odor of dead rodents is usually quite unpleasant.
I've bought a lot of bait traps. Locate the point of entry first, so you can close it AFTER the rat population has been eliminated. If you set traps beneath the house, the rats will usually flee and die somewhere else. They're extremely intelligent creatures.
Yes, the opening is large enough to accommodate large rodents.
It depends on whether you have rats or are just suspicious of them. Some of the yellow residue that indicates activity is usually visible. It took about a week for us to get started. If you only have one or two rats, you may not need to refill for quite some time.

Latches that are safe to use. I am a landlord who has had a rat infestation at one of my properties in town for over a year. There appeared to be no solutions. I was about to call in the professionals and give up. I spent $300 on my previous attempt. 00 in traps of various types to see what works and what doesn't. These Bait Stations have worked in situations where other Bait Stations had failed for reasons I don't understand. I was so blown away that I purchased two more. I used them outside with Peanut Butter Block Bait and placed hazelnut spread in the included tray and near the openings to attract any rats or mice that might be present. The bait was consumed in a single day, so I continued to replenish the bait stations on a daily basis until they no longer ate. It took about two weeks for everything to come together. I haven't received any new complaints about rats in the last two months. The issue has been resolved. This is a product that I wholeheartedly endorse.
I plan on using them for that purpose, but it would have been nice if all of the features had worked. The main issue is that the vertical rods are excessively long. You won't be able to close the station if you use them. Make them a quarter inch shorter, Jesus' people. The horizontal rods, fortunately, are an exact match. It would have been even better if all four latches for the two stations had worked, but only three had latched. There's also the lid hinge to consider. It would have been nice if there was a real hinge rather than a clam-shell hinge. bent plastic hinge in the shape of a shell food container After opening the box TWICE, the stressed hinge plastic on one station had broken in half, and half of the lid on that station was missing. So, while these will kill the rats, they aren't safe. Also, the keys and locks are only prying mechanisms for an interior plastic "latch," not real locks. Overall, these are probably cheap Chinese crap that will do the job, but you'll have to replace them after one or two seasons because they won't last.
Squirrels had a great feast two days after the bate stations were placed in the backyard; they ripped the bate station apart and easily entered the box. On the first day, squirrels made a dent in the bate station's plastic front, and on the second day, they ate the entire front, as seen in the photos. This product does not meet my expectations, and I do not recommend it.
I despise the idea of a chipmunk breaking into my house. but not . These boxes are nearly identical to those used by previous professional exterminators, but who wants to pay an exterminator to do something that you can do yourself? We just got these, so I'm not sure how well they work yet, but I think they'll suffice. Larger rodents can fit through the holes. I despise the idea of a chipmunk breaking into my house. but not for a squirrel or, more importantly, our chihuahua Tamper-proof design. The bait is placed on the wire prongs after it is purchased. I had to think for a second before I realized what you were saying. JT Eaton's bucket of bait was purchased, and it will most likely last us until the end of time (JK)- that is, in perpetuity I'm quite pleased with myself for not having to hire an exterminator. Mice are cute, but not when they're living in your walls and breeding under the kitchen sink.
I bought it to get rid of the rats outside, but security cameras revealed that squirrels had gotten in and were eating everything.
These were placed near the edge of the woods, rather than along the foundation of my house. I don't want the mice to come into the house; instead, I want them to flee. A clear piece over the bait area would be a helpful improvement. It would be more convenient not to have to open the box if there is still bait in it.
We had trouble opening the traps at first, but once we figured it out, the second one was simple to open. Keep the keys in a safe place in case you need to reopen the door. The bates will be placed in a designated area. We couldn't figure out who they were, so we just left the bait on them. Perhaps that's what I was supposed to do all along (? The important thing to remember is that the rodents are no longer present. "Apple Bait Blocks" were used, and the results were satisfactory. I like that this product cannot be opened by a child in order to get the bait out. They are currently working beneath our home and are doing an excellent job. Thank you very much.
It performs as expected; however, the only issue I have is that it requires two keys, which are not included. So I had to open one end, slide my finger in, and take the key for the other side; additionally, the instructions for 'loading' bait are terrible. Go to YouTube and watch the video, and you're done.
