There is no need for one if you are using this solely for seeds. In order for seeds to propagate, it is necessary for the temperature to stay constant. Now that the chives and strawberries have broken through the soil, I am ready to plant my tomatoes. I wish you the best of luck,
Leaving ours on is a practice we follow. Put smoke detectors in your home. Still not sure if there are 'official instructions'. People generally say to not leave them alone, which seems impractical for the majority of The seeds have sprouted with them running 24/7 for years without incident, but you will have to decide if you want them on 24/7 while planting.
You can certainly do so.

Buying this unit on September 12, 2018 was a great decision for me. Nov. 1 marks the beginning of the month. This is my 30th batch of seeds and I just noticed they are not blooming as well as the first round. As such, I felt the mat and it felt I'm cold, and it's freezing outside. It is COLD AS STONE. When I saw how long it took the seeds to germinate, I began to wonder why. The only thing I can think of is that this has been dead for a while. It is quite frustrating as I have already tried finding another seedling mat other than the one I used. It would be worth your time to look into returning it to Amazon. I will also contact the seller to see if the return window has opened. The money may have just gone down the drain.
Unfortunately, the packaging does not appear to be waterproof. I bought this because it stated that it was waterproof, even though all packaging that it came in cautions not to.
I bought one of these to use as seedling trays. Although it never felt any warmer than when I took it out of the box, I felt stupid for leaving it plugged in for 3 days. When I opened the package, it was rolled up very tightly, so I assumed that once it warmed up, it would become more level. If it warmed up first, that may still be the case. However, the one I got did not. Hopefully I can return and give it another go. It is possible that I will adjust the rating according to that. When something was never useful to begin with, it's tough to evaluate it.
The temperature never reaches a certain point. As a result, it stays on at all times. It is vital for my cuttings to be able to survive at a temperature of 78 degrees Fahrenheit and 25 Celsius, or else they rot instead of roofing. It doesn't work if you do not get up to temperature. The more negative reviews I write, the more they disappear, and to be honest, I am simply amazed how these cheap crapoy consumer items ALWAYS receive at least 4 stars. It seems that institutional integrity is a problem.
Kombucha can be brewed with this. This helps keep the temperatures of my two 1 gallon jars constant at The temperature in my kitchen is usually between 63 and 65 degrees F Winter temperatures in the United States averaged 67 degrees.
Make sure you get one with a soil thermometer! There is no temperature control on this unit and it is way too hot for small germination containers. If I could do it all over again, I would buy a unit with a soil thermometer probe. Despite the lack of temperature control and the fact that the soil is too hot for small germination containers, if I could do it over, I would purchase one with a soil thermometer probe. With larger flats that have a great deal of soil, it looks like it'll work great. You should place a fire retardant towel between your smaller container and the container itself if you are going to use a smaller.
It was turned off once I did. Although it didn't work perfectly, it was fantastic while it did. If I turned it off after I had already placed the next tray of seeds, it would not come back on. This did not last at all and I am extremely disappointed in it.
No matter how you do it, germination is a great boost! According to the description, it will raise the temperature of bedding by 20° below ambient I. & I. It does, as shown in the photo where I have placed a food thermometer into a humid soil and water Soil temperature next morning was 90 degrees, just 20 degrees above room temperature, and the set up is shown in the photograph My kitty litter box was made from a box with drainage holes, then plant fabric was placed over the holes and potting soil was added. In any case, use a larger plastic mixing tray under the litter box with a heating mat to avoid dripping. To deter accidents by snoopy pets, chicken wire is woven throughout! To thin seedlings, I find it to be easier this way The use of individual pots or trays is significantly less expensive than the use of transplants. It will be so exciting to see those little sprouts!.
