Questions & Answers

If a gallon size jar of tea is kept between 75 and 80 degrees, how long will it last What is the purpose of having a thermostat set to 85 degrees in a house that is always in the mid-60s?

A majority of the time, it would The one I have is wrapped around a Norther Brewer 2 Glass kombucha container in the size of a gallon. At this time of day, my ambient temperature is It takes the vessel no time at all to reach 80 degrees inside the heater. As a result, I have attached it to a digital thermostat controller because it would easily reach 80 degrees if left on all the time. With a 1-amp circuit, I can even run the fan on a timer. In a fifty-gallon container, I would think you could expect 15 to 20 degrees higher than the ambient temperature.

This mat should be able to work as a root warmer for plants (roots) that need heating after transplantation?

The answer is yes. Despite having better control over the temperature with seed trays, we also planted the seeds in 72 cell flats placed in the tray using the mats. It is clear that the heat is less in the outlaying cells than in As a means to limit the amount of air passing between the cells, soil blocks might be the best option.

On the box, there is a warning about cancer and reproductive hazards. Could this be why?

Here's what I can tell you to answer your During the 1968 elections in California, Proposition 65 was passed by the voters as a way to ensure drinking water safety. "The Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1968" is the official name of Proposition 65. A proposal was approved that mandates businesses issue warnings to Californians whenever significant exposures to chemicals which cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive problems exist. Do I place this under the bin or on top of the small rubbermaid worm bin if it is for that purpose? Is there a temperature I should maintain for it?

The answer is yes. Under the bin, you would place the heat mat. Use of our Jump Start Digital Temperature Controller for Heat Mats is optimal for achieving the best control. A temperature probe in the controller will be inserted into the worm bin substrate, allowing the controller to sense the temperature of the substrate and adjust heat from the mat to maintain the desired temperature (programmed). There was no mention of what kind of worm you are raising, but I looked up 75F and it appears to be OK (at least for Red Wigglers). It is important to note that cold temperatures will cause the heat mat to be unable to work, so locate the worm bin in an area

It is not wise to germinate your seeds on bare floors It is described that these mats promote germination, and I wouldn't consider germinating expensive seeds such as tomato, petunia, pepper, etc
5/5

Traditionally, I have used these mats in my home, but there are several sizes available on Amazon, and I don't have to go to the store. To make the mats more efficient, the manufacturer recommends placing plastic under the mats, it reflects heat upward to the growing trays, and helps them grow. A pellet or pot is a portable energy source. As for the substrate, I use corrugated plastic sheets that are easy to cut to size and I use various thermostats for seeds that require different bottom temperatures. It is possible to purchase a heat mat from Amazon for a variety of brands Jumpstart has provided me with a wide range of products for more than a decade, and they are all still working in their original form. The mats I recently purchased are for expanding my seed germination capacity before winter, and I expect to buy more before then. There are also quite a few sellers on Amazon with competitive prices.

It is a 45W, UL approved waterproof heat mat
5/5

I intend to use it under seed trays for starting vegetable seedlings that will be transplanted in to In my first experience with seedling mats, I would rather pay double the cost for this over a competing item that wasn't UL (UL is a safety certification in the US) than buy a competing product that decently rated but described as having thin wires in I do not have any experience with half-price units, but this unit is thick, nicely made, and it has a nice long, sturdy cord that can be plugged into any 110v outlet as well as a temperature controller. The only problem is that it uses only 45 watts for 400 square inches, so you can hardly go wrong with this model. A surprising amount of heat is generated. Listed on surface of mat are a number of vegetables and germination times, which is nice, but I would like to point out to the manufacturer that it would be more beneficial to have same list with optimum germination temperatures since the seed temperature With the Century temperature controller, it seems to be a good combination with a.

Our purpose is to cheat Mother Nature and this allows us to do so at a low cost
5/5

Due to the spring frosts here, it is possible for the growing season to be relatively short in the high desert. Our plan is to get a jump on it so that we can start planting as soon as the weather permits. That means chit early so we can get some sprouts started so we have what we need when we come to plant. In the past, we have heated a space in a log cabin that's near our gardens, but it has been pretty expensive if the weather wasn't cooperative. Our family gave a heating pad a try and now we have several from different manufacturers. The heating pads work so well and pay for themselves in the first year. By keeping the roots warm, we stimulate growth and cover the plants at night so they stay warm, as well as set them under LED grow lights for 12 hours a day. Every day, there are about eight hours. The system seems to be doing well so far, and we plan to add a few more mats very soon. (I'm not sure if it was this one but they're all about the same) We've also used them to keep yogurt culture at the right temperature as well as wrapped around potted plants (like our indoor orange trees) to keep their roots warm rather than using The only complaint I have is that the mats could be a little larger, because a roughly 10" x 20" mat fills up quickly once you start moving onto smaller The 5-point scale was what I chose Their cost-effectiveness and the fact that they reduced a once costly heating bill earned them five stars.

Plants are killed when exposed to this chemical
3/5

Money is not meant to be wasted. In just two days, this heat mat completely killed an entire starter tray of 200 cells of impatiens. We were unable to touch the mat because the temperature was so high. These same issues have occurred to other reviewers, so clearly Hydrofarm has not fixed the problem. Consider shopping somewhere else instead of wasting your money and your time.

The experience was worth it
5/5

There is a need for a temperature controller. 5) but this year I needed a larger Rather than paying for a higher brand, I chose to go with a cheaper alternative. There are many 20x20 mats to choose from. I tried the inkbird and AC Infiniti mats up to 30x30. The smell of both was worse than that of a cheap Walmart camping tent due to their VOCs. My lungs became irritated and I had headaches as a result. Furthermore, before they reached the set seeds trays temperatures they took a long time to heat up. I always had them on because the thermostat always had them on and I would open up the grow tent to the smell of toxic plastic. These are made in California, but you can find them from a certain b2b website that drop shippers use all the time. Yes, order a large enough quantity to qualify for a custom design, Yeah, and the only thing designed will be the blue ink. While they dyed my tent black, they stained the floor with yellow pigment. It's probably better that I went with a brand I knew would work from the start. These mats get a lot hotter than the fake infrared film babble and don't stink like spoiled old garbage bags from the '90s. It can be used in rooms that typically sit in the 50s to low 40s for starting peppers. Whether or not you need a controller for a mat of this size and wattage depends on its size and wattage. The 4x4 tent I put the grow mat inside has a target tray temperature of 75 degrees Fahrenheit, so it keeps the humidity there without a problem. The tent's total seat count jumped from 50 to 68 due to this.

The temperature is too high! This is the setup I use to start seeds in cell packs (which I have been doing for 30+ There is no way I can stand the heat
3/5

In the space of approximately two minutes, I set a small thermometer on top of one of the cell packs, and it hit The heat pad was still above 90 degrees, even when the cell packs were placed on an upside-down seed tray, which puts a little distance between the packs and the heat pad. On top of that, I put an inch of cardboard between the seed trays. The temperature of the battery packs remained around 80 degrees while that was occurring. It was necessary to unplug the mat in order to keep my seeds and seedlings from getting scorched.

You can't use it to cool a countertop because it draws heat too quickly
5/5

My zucchini plant germinated within 24 hours when I used this device. I measured it at nearly 4 inches by the end of the week. Germination was about 50% faster than normal for other plants The kit is worth the investment, and you will not regret it if you are creating a heat-controlled greenhouse effect for your This laptop does not come with a thermostat, nonetheless you aren't really forced to use one anyway since the laptop sits at about 78 degrees anyway. If you are using a surface that can leech heat away from it, it's best to place it on top of cardboard or Styrofoam so it can maintain its heat. Using it to open a window will not work since it cannot combat the heat draw of a surface like a countertop.
