Yes, there is a kit available if you require more height.
It's done a fantastic job so far. We have shade screens for it, but we remove them in the winter in case there is snow. They don't want to be burdened by the extra weight. If you press hard on the 4x4 pillars, there is a slight sway, but it is not caused by the wind. Where I live, we get a lot of wind, with gusts reaching 28 to 35 mph on occasion. There have been no issues with it.
All of our pergolas can be set up on wood or composite decks, concrete pads, or in the ground. No, you don't have to put it on a patio or deck. Pavers are the only platform on which we do not recommend installing. In this case, you'd have to take out the pavers, dig holes for the posts, and then reinstall them.
It can be cut down in width if necessary; just keep in mind that the instructions will need to be adjusted as you get closer to the end.

It's all a lie! The item does not appear to be as depicted in the photo. It is missing the shade kit, which are the top crossbars. Unless you download the manual and go to page 18 and read the fine print, it doesn't say that it comes separately when you buy it. I'm furious that they'd try to deceive a customer. I'd like a refund of my funds.
12x16 Valencia Pergola / Looked fantastic. I did it 99% by myself (probably a bad idea in retrospection) but it truly went very well. High-quality pt lumber was used, as well as a full extension kit, concrete bases for 4x4s, and an additional shade kit. I had to use more pvc glue than usual and probably could have used even more. It was definitely a challenge for me to complete on my own (I'm stubborn). I have average to above-average carpentry skills, but the instructions were clear and I followed them to the letter with no problems. I called twice for help, and the NE Arbors reps were fantastic. They answered all of my questions and helped me get through the build. I would strongly advise this.
The pergola is beautiful, but it took more time and effort to install than I had anticipated. It took almost two full days for me to complete. In retrospect, I wish I'd thought about getting the installation as well. For us, the cost of the lumber was approximately $250. The instructions are well-written and comprehensive. The vinyl has excellent quality. The back of the house now has a completely different appearance. We built it instead of adding a screened porch to a house we recently bought. We were fortunate to have a concrete pad that was perfectly positioned for an addition of some sort, but after considering that the porch would have blocked light coming in through our atrium doors and that we'd have to fight mosquitos that are abundant here without screening, we decided against it. We are extremely pleased with our purchase. We loved the decorative touches that would have been extremely difficult for us to cut, paint, install, etc. , and we were able to have it installed for a very low cost for a day's work. To improve our view, we're now planning a garden pond!.
Underneath a vinyl skin, there's a foundation of 2x6 and 4x4 lumber. As a result, you won't have to worry about keeping the stain or finish on the wood looking good.
