You ought not to use a ruler to measure an opening and consider it to be an accurate measurement. There are many different ways of measuring pipe thread, but it is generally agreed that this spray head is 1/2 inch inlet, as are those from Hunter, Toro, and just about all of the major manufacturers. If you want to use a rotating nozzle instead of a Hunter MP, you can use theirs as Rain Bird offers its own water-efficient nozzle that you can use instead. You can choose from either the 18RN series or the 24RN series depending on how far you intend to shoot.

It was impossible to rotate the rotation ring at the top of the sprinkler head after turning on the water. When I put it in a 360 configuration, it closes only 8 feet at most. My distance to 15 feet is only within reach if the spray is at a small angle. This was very disappointing and we had to buy more, because they were not working as described, and we needed them to work correctly, so that we could get full coverage of our yard. I was also disappointed to learn that I could have bought the same ones at Lowe's for less. Four better ones cost the same price as the four I just bought.
As the ones I received, the sprinkler heads did not come with a pull tab and did not include the actual sprinklers.
