The blades are firm but not hard do not sharpen to the point as it will break off. The erroneous parts are well removed. I use them as my favorite eraser for colored pencils.
To use an eraser pencil, choose one without a brush on the end, like the other Faber Castell eraser pencil. There is another kind with a soft pink eraser in it. The first kind is gritty and made to do away with ink etc.
