I'll be taking this to a conference and bringing scientific posters with me. I haven't taken it on a trip yet, but I've used other document tubes before, and this one will fit my 36" (shortest side) posters perfectly. br>br>I'm glad I purchased this tube. It possesses three beneficial characteristics:
1. It is durable because of the thick plastic (although I would have preferred a different material such as light metal or rigid leather, this is standard for document tubes)br>2. Telescoping with a high-quality locking mechanism (3 divets line up with divets on the inside layer when twisted, and a ridge prevents unlocking)br> The adjustable length is exactly as described, with the exception that it will only fit a 39" document. The outside of the tube, not the inside, is 40" when set to its longest setting. br>3. The twist cap is not attached to the adjustable strap; instead, it is secured to the tube itself. This ensures that the tube does not open by accident and fall off your shoulder (a fatal flaw of other document tubes). br>br>A clear plastic cap on top of the twist cap encloses the label, which is an added bonus! br>br>Contrary to the description in the currently most popular comment for this product, the tube is exactly as pictured and arrived in a box that was appropriately sized (the box could have fit two tubes side-by-side). In the extra space, brown paper was used to cushion it.
It's light and adjustable, so I got it. The poster was delivered without incident to an international conference. If you're not careful, the adjusting mechanism may undo itself. It's not extremely loose, in my opinion. But if you're not careful, it could all fall apart. The looseness of the shoulder strap is also a factor. To be extra safe, I used a small piece of blue painters tape that was close enough in color to the blue on the tube that it didn't appear that I had taped it around it. And, because I used painters tape, it was easy to remove at the end of the journey.
At the San Diego Comic-Con, I used mine to collect posters. con. I like that it's a telescoping tube because it's very sturdy. When the size is adjusted, the notches will not fully lock into place, so use caution when using this feature. Any longer posters inside can easily be bumped, shifted, and crushed, but I had no problems with it while walking around the convention or transporting it in an airplane's overhead bin. And, of course, it's ideal for storage. On Amazon, this is most likely the best document tube for travel for the money.
The other two were slightly smaller, as were several other items that fit in the tube's middle after the maps had been inserted. This tube worked *great* and I never had an issue with it coming undone in the size I had it set to, which was full size; my only complaint, and it's a minor one, is that the shoulder strap is barely large enough in the full size setting. It was tight, but not overly so, as I slung it over my torso in a quiver style. It handled a rainstorm admirably and kept everything dry inside. I intend to use it again because I enjoy playing games with full-size maps.
After spending far too much time reading telescopic tube reviews, I decided to purchase it. This is a simple telescopic tube made of black plastic that is extremely light. It worked perfectly for me when I went to a conference with my poster. I recommend securing the tube with tape in case it unlocks (this has been reported in other reviews). I also suggest wrapping the poster in a rubber band to make it easier to slide into and out of the tube.
The tube is a little flimsy, but it serves its purpose well.
The poster tube is fantastic. It's easy to collapse and expand, and the plastic is tough enough to resist denting and bending.
A sturdy document/art storage tube with an adjustable carrying strap that can be locked into place at several different lengths. It has a label on the end that you can write on, as well as a transparent cap that can be removed. We hadn't anticipated so many features. This is a nice item that looks like it will last a long time.
