It's a poster tube, in case you didn't realize. However, because it's made of thin plastic, it doesn't lock in well at specific heights, despite the notch marks. I wouldn't mind if it weren't for the fact that I bought it specifically because it claimed to fit 42" posters - I'm looking for a specific length. br>However, it is inadequate for this length. It's a good product for less than 36" or so, but the tube I got for 42 inches is terrible for the following reasons: br>1) The extending part's lock mechanism is broken. The outer plastic is too flimsy and won't stay in place. 2) The inner tube is insufficiently long. The 42" lock mark is located at the very bottom of the inner tube, leaving only a half-inch of overlap between the inner and outer tubes, which is where the notch is located. This is a potentially dangerous situation. Because the lock mechanism isn't very strong, it keeps popping out, revealing the center of the poster inside. br>3) the nylon shoulder strap is too short; its ends are riveted around the red rings, but they're riveted in such a way that it only fits 42 inches at its maximum extension. This is a problem because the top of the tube is about 4 inches deep, making it impossible to place it over the poster without bending it in the tube. The strap should be long enough to cover the entire length of the tube plus enough extra to allow the lid to be placed on without touching the poster. br>br>To reinforce the mid-section, I used two 4 inch plumbing repair clamps. Both the outer and inner pipes are in this section. It becomes much more stable as a result of this. The strap is removed to allow it to close without squishing the poster, and duct tape around the center keeps it from falling apart (and protects the center of the poster from rain). br>br>So, to sum it up - if the posters you're making are 36" or smaller - sure - It gets the job done. Continue looking if you require a 42-inch poster tube.
I'll add my two cents to Dan's. Strakis. sentiments of 14 How did this film receive such positive feedback? I understand it's inexpensive, but I'm pretty sure I could 3d print and assemble a better product for the same money; a Ziploc or off-brand food storage container has more tensile strength than this tube. You'll have a hard time fitting the tube into an airplane's overhead bin. Even the weight of a suit jacket will be too much for the surface. Locking/unlocking with a twist is about as effective as trying to nail Jell-O. To the wall, I say. Carrying the tube through a crowded airport will almost certainly leave you scrambling to replace the cap or keep the two halves of the tube together because it arrived untwisted. Then there's the strap, which is a ludicrous ruse. When the strap came completely undone and separated from the tube, I particularly enjoyed having the tube drop to the ground and roll. It is not made of high-quality materials. br>Save your money and get a new tube.
I'm in ecstasy right now. This was extremely helpful and simple to use for me. It's what I use to keep my range targets from smashing up in the trunk of my car. It's fantastic! The tube can be easily adjusted to fit various media sizes, and the cap has a twist-lock to keep it closed and your belongings inside, as well as a shoulder strap. This is impossible to beat!.
I keep a flag in this product. The American flag, which is 3x5 feet in size, fits perfectly.
It fit large academic posters perfectly and held up well during air travel, and the flight attendants didn't think it was an extra carry on because of its unassuming appearance. The strap is a little short to fit over a shoulder or cross body when fully extended, so it was docked a star. I fixed the issue by unscrewing the strap holder and replacing the straps with some longer ones I had on hand. Overall, it was an excellent purchase, and several people at the AERA conference inquired about it.
I needed a place to keep all the different sizes of cleaning rods that had accumulated around my workshop since I became a collector over the last few years. The tube turned out to be the solution.
When returning a damaged item, you will be charged a shipping fee of $25. I've included a photo to demonstrate that it was crashed when it arrived. br>I carefully examined the dent and discovered that, while the material can return to its original shape, the dent remains softer than the rest of the tube. It was for this reason that I returned it.
These aren't all that powerful. They are not suitable for shipping or for transporting in the cargo hold of an airplane when traveling. It's designed for occasional use.
