They could because they're tented. We've never used them in that manner, though.

I used these for a rehearsal dinner and they were very affordable. They were lovely, and they complemented the tables beautifully. I liked that they could stand up on their own because I wasn't sure if holders were included. Although they were described as oysters, they looked great on white tablecloths. I'd hire them again if the situation arose.
