You have to take the plastic cover off the blade first. Once you have the tape rolls picked up, push them onto the tape guns using the spring loaded metal piece. As you pull the roll of tape between the openings, make sure to stop at the end of the tape. The sticky side of the tape should be facing out when unwinding. Pass the tape over the plastic gates by pulling it under the roller and then passing it over the roller. The excess tape should be cut off.
The majority of tapes will work here, most of them are clear. I don't think it'll work well with filament tape. If the filament tape is too thick to be cut with a gun blade you may need scissors.

I was amazed when I first tried out this tape gun with the first roll of tape that came in the box, it worked great. Basically, it is a thin piece of tape that is very cheap. Once I had run through that roll, I put in a Roll of Scotch shipping tape, and it didn't do anything. The reason it doesn't work around the rolling part of the gun, maybe, is that it is thicker and less flexible? There is no way for me to In any case, if you use thin tape anyway, this shouldn't be an issue. However, I wish I had known this before I bought it, as even if I had, it would have been useless, since I don't want my boxes to fall apart while I was using it!.

It is doubtful I have ever seen a tape gun body made of plastic before but this one is solid and will not crack and break. I am a professional, and I need a tape gun that will last instead of breaking in a month. The tape gun I ordered through Amazon is the first one I won't be ordering in the future because of the price. The product I am returning is defective.
