Is it the tube or the leads that are red?

You are correct, it is just the tube; the leads are of normal color.

Are there any erasers on the table?

The mechanical pencils come with erasers, and the lead refills are all that is needed. The erasers, I believe, are sold individually. I actually use an "eraser stick," which is nothing more than an eraser and measures almost 5 inches long. It's fantastic, and I'd recommend it wholeheartedly. I'm not sure what brand it is, but it's available at Office Max / Depot.

Is there any lead in the pencils? Do they come with anything in them, or are they empty?

The penicil, as well as the pack that comes with it, contain lead.

I was sent an item that was quite old

The item I got was from 2013, and it was very old. We don't want to open it because we're not sure how good the lead is on this old item. As a result, this is being returned.

It's inexpensive, but it's prone to breaking! The pencil isn't very long-lasting

The lead advance button is easily broken, and the lead is constantly breaking - or when the pencil breaks. Cheap, but not when each pencil has a week's worth of use!.

There aren't any squeaky sounds

These are fantastic. Every time I wrote, my off-brand refills made a terrible scratchy noise, which was especially loud during quiet exams. These are fantastic refills! They don't make a loud scratching noise and are less likely to break.
