In my experience, one of the tricky things is that it takes a lot of practice to get the tray placement spot on for printing on a DVD or CD, but the results are great Since I have been having my R280 for nearly 10 years, I am heartbroken when I receive a message that says "service required" which indicates that some of the parts are nearing the end of their service life. Thus, it will be less expensive for me to purchase a new printer than to purchase parts and services.
You may have a hard time locating refillable cartridges because Epson/Seiko have built into their cartridges a proprietary chip to keep them from being refilled. In cases where businesses have attempted to fill the cartridges with more than one cartridge and bypass the chip, they've been sued by have not purchased this printer yet, I strongly advise you against buying anything made by Epson or Seiko. Other printer manufacturers not only do not object to you refilling your printer, but actively encourage you to do so.

My understanding of this product is not clear since I have read so many negative reviews. My Epson R280 was purchased from Amazon in September 2010 and it has been working great ever since. In order to fully appreciate this printer, people need to realize that different printers do different things and as such this one is best for printing on DVD's and CD's. There are CDs.
