Questions & Answers

DO YOU BE ABLE TO GET IT THRU a lot of ink?

There is no way this thing uses so much ink for so little benefit. When I originally purchased this printer, I wanted the built-in scanner and to be able to take pictures. My printer runs out of black ink quite often when I use it for black and white text at school (mostly at school) because I rarely use it for black and white. It costs more to buy color cartridges rather than There will be a random selection of 5 images Whenever I try to print, I have to clean the printer for a few minutes, and I recently learned that all the ink is dispensed out of sponges inside the printer. could explain why I have to replace my color cartridges every 6 months even though I don't print in color.

Paper trays are not visible on the back of the machine What is the bottom tray's capacity for printing on cardstock?

In my case, I have the bottom tray set to print The size of the paper should be 5 x 11 I use 110lb cardstock all the time without any issues. Is great at what she does. Even so, I only feed each sheet of cardstock in at a time.

Do you know how well it prints directly to CDs?

If you print to a CD and/or DVD, do you need a tray, as you did in the earlier printers, or do you insert the disc directly into the unit? There was a "Tray G" on my MG6220. A tray is needed if you use the unit, but does the unit come with it? If not, where can you buy When, where, and how is it specified (i.e. What do B, G, etc.) mean?

What is the number of ink cartridges you need to purchase? Can you continue printing if one of the cartridges runs out? Does the printer stop printing if one of the cartridges runs out?

A full set of Canon ink is included in the cost of the printer We don't have to deal with "starter" cartridges. There are several reasons to be interested in XL cartridges, including The same physical cartridge can hold more ink. Since I use a lot of blue, I think 215XL Cyan is the right choice for me. Those who are printing a lot of text may be doing so for some time. You can purchase 250XL cartridges to add additional copies if that is the case.

Printer with Scanner and Copier - Canon PIXMA MG5420 Wireless Color Photo Printer with a Scanner and Copier [11/01/2015 The MG5420 has a similar review, I suggest you read it if you are considering it. This is the replacement for the MG7520]br>br>[UPDATE 12/11/2014 If you are interested in the MG5420, you should consider the Canon PIXMA MG7520.

[UPDATE 12/13/2013] MG5420]

[12/22/2013 NOTE If you are interested in the MG5420, you might also want to take a look at the Canon PIXMA MG7120. have added a section below that details why I believe the MG5420 is superior to the MG5520]

OVERVIEW Please read *br If you do not care about the kind of software or the level of connectivity, but just want good photo quality, then this is the right choice for you. Canon PIXMA MX610 is a true dual function (copier + scanner) printer. It offers the combination of quality and value that can make your Canon PIXMA photography hobby a lot more rewarding. There has only been one MG5320 available since December 2012, and this is it. It should be noted, however, that the cost difference is not as large as you might think, so considering contemplating the Canon MG7520 features (coming out in Fall 2014) or its predecessor MG7120 (coming out in Fall 2013) before committing is something worthy of consideration. BLUE PAPER PROS It's not true* Then write - respected consumer magazine lists these printers as providing the best photo quality it has ever seen for all models of MG5000, MG6000, and MG8000 The ink jets are on one (copier, scanner). The entry point into this line of products is represented by this model.

- For the new MG5420 (as well as for the MG6320 and the more recent MG7120) also comes a new XL size ink tank that reduces the cost per page It is still the same formula for the inks in the new tanks. There was no such facility available for predecessor models MG5320 and MG6220. Then write - In contrast to their predecessors MG5320/MG6220, the new MG5420 (as well as MG6320/MG7120) has twice as many black ink nozzles. As a result, black ink is used more efficiently and the accuracy of dots is improved. Then write - In terms of form factor, this is shorter/squatter than the predecessor model MG5320, which for some is a better fit when on a desk. They both look good to me, but based on reviews, it appears the new look has been well received. Then write - In addition to the new independent 4"x6" and 5"x7" photo paper drawers at the front of this printer (compared to the previous generation MG5320/MG6220), this printer has the new MG6320/MG7120 mode as well. Then write - It is easy to remove the top for copying or scanning (unlike the older MG5320/MG6220 model). Then write - As someone who has owned a number of Canon products for a decade or more, I have always found Canon to have excellent customer service. A significant portion of our customers seem to be located in Virginia and Maryland. The following are less desirable pros Please read *br Then write - The printer prints 15% faster than the previous model depending on the colour and the speed This is a matchup between two schools. It is important to consider colour, quality, etc. , as well - If that is of importance to you, it is possible to print directly from CF memory cards rather than the previous generation. Then write - An expanded selection of devices that can be directly printed to it compared to the previous *Cons / Warnings Please read *br Then write - As with its predecessor (MG5320), this has just one less color than the next step up MG6320/MG6220, namely, it does not have GRAY, which is required for improved black and white art and photo results and to Gray is difficult to distinguish from color pages for me, but some reviewers seem to know how to tell. Then write - This product is identical to its predecessor (MG5320), it does not have an Ethernet connection like MG7120/MG6320/MG6220 which are the next step up. An Ethernet connection is a simple, reliable way of sharing data or connecting to a network that stays online even when computers go It is worth it to get a MG7120/MG6320/MG6220 if you have more than one user on the network. However, I am not sure it is worth the relatively small additional cost. ** B - This one does not have the option of coming in white, as the MG7120 and MG6320 Then write - The issue with this product is no longer new (end of 2012). It is likely that most of the issues found with it have been resolved In addition, if you are buying a used one, this may still be an issue. Then write - Then write - The lid of the MG5320 expands as far as a cellphone's thickness when using it as a copier or scanner (like its predecessor). However, the top can now be popped off quickly with the MG5420, like the more recent MG6320 and MG7120. Then write - Touch screen content included in this model is not available for MG6320/MG7120- It's a sensitive interface that has garnered rave reviews, but I find this older style to be just as easy to use. Then write - There is no built-in fax, if this is a crucial feature for you, if it's a must-have in an all-in-one Here it is. If you need a fax built in, you would have to get a dedicated one like the MX922/MX892 printer, however if you want one with a dedicated line you can get the MX922/MX892. MX922/MX892 scanning meets most other needs including most graphics needs, although you will not get the higher end scanning of MG models at this price. This is only an issue if you are scanning negatives, otherwise MX922/MX892 scanning meets most needs. Here are some suggestions to consider Please read *br It is

Set the printer page setting to HIGH QUALITY for text when you do text (and perhaps also use it as the default) It really makes a difference when you put it up. Then write - You can opt not to have it automatically shut off by following the instructions below Ink waste can be reduced by turning off the printer. Then write - You may want to choose to print in black and white You should print in white or grayscale when colors are not needed, otherwise the printer will layer color to obtain black. Although Canon believes the black is better when it is layered, it is up to you. Then write - As for something that you are likely to use a lot, and the GRAY and Ethernet functionality are useful, you might like to consider the older MG6220 since it uses inks that are easy to find at stores and online, and it is currently on sale since it has been Then write - You might consider an older model of the MG5320 since the inks are easy to find at stores and online. The MG5320 is also pretty cheap right now since it's being replaced, so you might favor something that uses GRAY instead of ETHERNET. Then write - The GRAY color or Ethernet connectivity (available on the MG7120/MG6320/MG6220) might be useful to you, so you might want to check out the MG7120/MG6320/MG6220, which otherwise are It is

When using Canon paper, you'll get the best results. You should also compare matte paper with glossy paper. A glossy finish. You may be able to meet the majority of your needs with matt. If anyone knows of a significantly less expensive photo paper for this printer that is comparable in quality and durability, please let me know in the comments. Then write - Occasionally, when there is a POWER OUTAGE, it may be necessary to unplug the computer for a few moments and plug it back in again. As a result, the capacitor can be discharged. Then write - For these inkjets, Canon's website has a lot of information on the different products you can compare, so you might consider reviewing it before committing. Then write - Get a printer as soon as possible after you have received it and print a few samples in color and black & white Find out if you have a lemon before it's too late so you can exchange it for a better one while you are still able to do so. Set the printer to w, borderless photos, print the DVD if that's important to you, etc. Machines such as these contain lots of parts and are complicated. Please review the following information about ink usage Please read *br People researching ink jet printers will most likely be concerned about the cost of the ink. If this occurs with MG5420, here are five things you can do to prevent it Then write - You may want to consider buying the XL versions of the ink since they are supposed to reduce the cost per color page to a very competitive 13-cents The cost of a page is 14 cents From 16 to A 19 cents bill). It is

In order to avoid black created by layers of colors, it is suggested that you print in black and white or greyscale when that will suffice. As Canon feels, the black from colored ink is better, it is up to you to decide. Then write - You can turn off the automatic shutoff when you are finished using it I'm not online. As a standby mode, you are using Putting that in perspective, even on standby all year, we use around 8kWh. For example, it may be around $1/year depending on where you live. This will reduce the number of longer cleaning procedures after startup and frequently after Also, it runs the cleaning at other times, which is a good thing since it keeps things from becoming clogged. Then write - When possible, print white pages or pages with a heavily colored background in black and white. It is

The 20-point font is used in some fonts Ink usage is 40 percent lower than other brands. A leading consumer magazine reports that Times uses a lot less toner than Arial, and that Arial uses a lot less than Calibri, for instance. I am aware of the following NOTICE The nozzles should be cleaned at least once a month or so if there is no printing or cleaning routine. You can choose to run a cleaning routine (easy to do) or turn it on and off to force it to once a month or so. You can talk to Canon support if they clog for a simple fix. THOUGHT #2 A bug in the MG6220, which works in the same family as this MG5420 (though it is part of an earlier models line up), warns you when there is low ink. The low ink warning bars on the MG6220 show much less ink than the MG5320 when the ink from the MG5320 is placed in the MG6220. As a result, it makes it seem as if there is a lot of ink used. It is pretty unwelcome to have a bug that uses actual ink so heavily. We wouldn't have been able to get this rating if it hadn't been for a leading consumer magazine Because of the MG6220 reviews and the estimated page cost that wasn't crazy, and because there were an abundance of other favorable reviews, I think this bug could have been much more harmful to MG6220 sales. I hope that after reading the comments about ink usage for the 6220, you feel better about ink usage in the 5000/6000 model family. The following are notes The following is just an interesting factoid that is not very useful There is usually no head re-alignment with this Canon inkjet model range after it prints instead, you hear a small cleaning or purge after it prints. Ink consumption is much less with this kind of routine than with the big cleaning/purging that is much more common if you don't set the printer to auto shut down. I'm not online. Then write - Ink usage data for Canon - CANON Please read *br The following are Canon's published page yield per page figures (I've rounded them a little) for the MG5420, since they are very hard to locate. The difference between these numbers and what users experience may be due to the cleaning routine, differences between test and real world usage, etc. There is at least a real world expected usage ratio to compare between standard and XL cartridges and to compare to costs to determine which is more cost-effective. Using specially designed paper (for example, enter "Canon paper_guide" in a search engine) will let you see the difference between the higher and lower It is also a good idea to print from an application that allows you to select the profile for that paper (ex. It would be helpful to have Adobe products) There is a 1200 horizontal x 2400 vertical maximum dpi scan resolution on the MG5520 that should meet the majority of scanning needs (though it is too low for some scanning needs especially when enlarging film or slides). As an example, a 2 is still acceptable. A 5"x3" picture. I am not sure if a 5" paper photo at 1200dpi can enlarge to 8x10 without distortion, although it will be fortunate if you even get that much information from the image. In this regard, it is also moot for one to argue enlargement benefits of over 1200 dpi scanning of paper photos, since the detail is likely not present in a higher resolution. The year you purchased the home The printer stopped working, wireless was not available, it took 10 minutes to start, and the cartridges used a lot Despite having bought this printer in November of 2014, I am just now writing a review because the printer stopped working completely and I am unsure how it happened
3/5

The pros are Printing things is what it does. This is all I have to say. The cons are
After being dormant for a while, it literally takes just a few minutes for it to warm up. This is not an exaggeration. It stays ink as long as I print in black, but it destroys cyan and yellow ink as quickly as it prints black. It takes me more than twice as long to replace these cartridges as I do to replace the black cartridges. It was impossible to connect to the WiFi. Although it was able to connect to the network and everything, it would not Although I am not an expert in networking, this shouldn't be a problem for me. As my computer is directly connected to the printer with a printer cable, to use the scanner I need to connect to it wirelessly with my tablet, then use the Canon app to control the scanner before emailing myself the photo to be viewed As an alternative, I can use my phone and follow the same steps. Getting rid of it earlier was only possible because I found ink suppliers on Amazon with reasonably priced replacement products, and printing simply isn't a high priority for me. I see that this printer has been discontinued, but I hope that those considering buying one will read this review and reconsider.

I am writing with reference to the 12th of December 2014

It was April, was it not? A year from now, in A price of 97 cents is quoted. The following pictures were taken six years, four months ago With this printer, I must say I had pretty good luck. A few days later, I turned it on, the lights came on as usual, and the screen displayed its colorful start-up display as well. When it died, it simply stopped functioning. The moving parts do not grind in agony, no error message is shown, no hard warning sound is made. A blank screen appeared, and then the computer shut itself off. In the past, before the pandemic, and when there were weddings, I worked as a videographer as a side hustle. (To find the video on YouTube, search for "NOLA Proposal Cam. ". mostly used the printer for printing DVDs and Blu-rays Case inserts and discs made from Blu-Ray discs. The printer printed Blu-rays well but did not do well with it There was a lot of tweaking to be done on Blu-Ray discs. If I could buy that same printer again for $500, would I? Jeff Bezos will never agree to that! The reviews for other Canon printers have provided me with enough horror stories to conclude that calling tech support is a waste of time. It is the business of tech support to tell their customers that it is cheaper to buy a new product than to repair the one you already own. That holds true in my case as well In order to replace my MG5420, I should find something that has not (possibly) been used and refurbished, that has not been sitting in a warehouse for years, and that does not guzzle down low power supply. Ink cartridges with a lot of capacity (the only kind available) - and much less expensive A Epson could be a good choice.

PRO This printer prints CDs and CD case inserts on glossy photo paper well and does a good job printing discs. A CON is It goes through a number of low points These are the only kinds of cartridges available (capacity cartridges). It can even be "extra" Cartridges with a large capacity don't last long - if you can find them at all.
