In order to use it in class, I purchased this calculator. The software does what it is supposed to do. Aside from the LCD lighted screen, the previous version did not have a backlight and I really liked that. Only one thing I would change would be to have the buttons also backlit on a future version. It must be said that we had to download certain programs into the calculator for my class, but when I went to load them onto this calculator they were already there. It did take a while to load them on a previous version of this calculator. If you need to have a TI 83 or 84 for class and are required to have one, then these calculators are worth the money. There are many choices for a scientific calculator with a simpler interface, so finding a cheaper one can be easy. It is very tough to damage this calculator and so I believe it will last for a long time if it is well cared for. All of my friends and family would totally enjoy this. One pro I could think of would be the ability to recharge the battery versus the need to stick batteries in at Because the earlier version of this device had batteries you had to insert into it, I believe that this is the case now.
