In person, the color seems more orange than it appears in the picture. There is no coloring added to the scale. It consists of raw, polished brass.

It took a bit of effort to calibrate, but it was a good balance

As soon as this balance has been calibrated, it has a pretty good balance. With my new model, I managed to achieve an accuracy One gram weight was lost, but it took some effort and required me to bend one end of the balance beam so it was a bit Weighing the balance is pointless because you won't know how much to put on it. In my measurement, the 20g weight is about 18 grams. Using a better set of calibration weights, 5g can be measured.

My daughter was dressed as Lady Justice for Halloween, and these are great for that, meaning they are light enough to carry all night, durable, and the color matches her sword. As a result of their uneven balance, they would have been sent back for return if I had bought them to weigh something.

I think this is really A tiny fraction of a gram seems to throw the balance out (works well, but not equally balanced). I was able to use it for my herbal needs, but I would not describe it as precise.
