The cushions are covered in velvety, velour-like material and are very comfortable. Material of the same kind. You can remove the covers and wash them since they have a zipper. Unlike other cushions, this one has a different animal on each side, with the front of the critter on one side, and the back of the critter on the other. There is also a turtle, a rabbit, a bull, and an There are no comments to make about the back of the turtle or rabbit, but the back of the elephant or bull could cause something to be said. Thought it was worth mentioning even though I don't believe it is a big deal. As well as stacking nicely, they can pick up bits of dirt on the floor as well, so be sure to keep the floors clean and wash the covers regularly. You could even let your kids slide the cushions around the floor to clean it.
