This was purchased to use with a bass preamp pedal that lacked a built-in DI. I sold the preamp pedal, so I didn't need the SB- 2 and gave it back. It's a nice DI, and it handled bass well while remaining transparent. I wouldn't think twice about picking up an SB- 2 in the event that I require a small, high-quality DI in the future.
For use in direct boxes, Jensen transformers are the industry standard. But, for your gigs, do you really require that level of excellence? I'm in a cover band and we need a lot of di boxes for pianos, electric drum pads, and bass, and I can't believe the audience isn't aware of or interested in the fact that we're not using JDIs. At the end of the day, it is important to remember the following: This is more than enough. They assist in the reduction of line noise, and I am very pleased with their performance.
My keys sounded very thin through this DI, so I switched to a different DI and got full fidelity back. br>In addition, the pad pushbutton was stuck. br>I have other radial boxes and have never had a problem with them, so I returned this one for a refund.
They are extremely effective. I bought two of them, and they deliver the same crisp sound and high audio quality that I've come to expect from Radial. Prior to purchasing these, I owned a Radial stereo direct box (which I still own), and they sound just as good.
For mobile rigs, this is a fantastic little DI. We had to run the Yamaha Motif at 50 despite the fact that any higher would clip the transformer.
The sound is crisp and clear. The quality of the materials is excellent, and it has a very solid feel to it. It's not too heavy. br>br>I haven't tried it out in real life yet - It was only for the purpose of practice. I haven't had the chance (or need) to use the ground lift yet. I don't see any issues based on the initial quality.
I attempted to convert a stereo keyboard signal to a mono signal using this method. There was a great deal of signal loss as a result of this.
To sum L R stereo to Mono XLR, this is a fantastic option. The output is simple and straightforward, with a good, clean low Z. It's what you'd expect from a Radial item.
