Questions & Answers

This supply appears to be Phantom power, but does it also provide 48V, as my AT2020 XLR requires 48V?

It's a mistake to get too fixated on the exact number of volts needed for phantom power. An independent audio engineer and a Behringer representative both explained and demonstrated to my satisfaction that 15V is twice as much as you really need. (If I spoke with Behringer again, I'd inquire as to why their mixers and interfaces aren't equipped with 48V, as this is what customers believe they require.) When it comes to business and marketing, the consumer's perception is everything. Behringer's adamant adherence to the 15V-standard or any other number besides 48V Phantom Power - Sales of an impressive line-up interface are undoubtedly being harmed. mixes- pocket-sized - One is sized for a backpack and the other for a suitcase; it costs $20 (now $25-$30). From $30 (for three different model numbers of the same interface, one of which is colored red) to over $100 (for bigger, heavier models with more features), there are bigger, heavier models with more features for every additional $10 spent. Behringer, on the other hand, is creating a backed-up situation for itself by refusing to supply the spec "48V." warehouses with an overabundance of these devices. So there you have it. On my Xenyx 302, I find that I have plenty of Phantom Power (though I would prefer larger, smoother slider switches-- like those that would be found in a professional audio production studio Dream on.

Is it possible to record each of the mixer's inputs as a separate track using a USB connection and Ableton?

There are no tracks in a mixer; instead, there are channels. Your software keeps track of what you do. Because it's a mixer, it'll mix multiple channels based on the number of inputs it has. You can mix on the left, right, or both channels.

Is it necessary to connect this mixer to an interface/computer via RCA cables in order to record, or can I just plug in my XLR microphone and record via USB?

You'll need a computer and some software to get started. The mic is then connected to the unit, and the USB interface cable is connected to the computer. Best of luck!

Is it possible to connect this to a piano keyboard, a laptop/ipod, and a sound system so that I can perform on stage? My ambition is to be able to play the piano with a backing track. ?

Yes. It's just a small mixing board with a limited number of inputs, so as long as you have the appropriate cables for your iPod/laptop, you should be fine.

If Behringer hadn't cut corners, they would have had a winner on their hands
3/5

In the past (prior to 2008), I had always had great success with Behringer products. I needed a mixer because I was just getting started with game streaming. The Q502USB was ideal in this situation. except. br>br>When my first one arrived, it started clipping after about two weeks of use. The main feed would be inundated with loud static noises that appeared out of nowhere. Through Amazon, I was able to exchange that unit for a new one. It's been three weeks since the replacement unit was installed, and the same issue has resurfaced (albeit a little quieter this time). br>br>I got a second opinion (from a local DJ shop), and they said that based on what I'm describing and their analysis, it appears that Behringer received a shipment of bad capacitors. The type of sound it makes, as well as the fact that it occurs at random intervals, point to a capacitor problem. br>br>I'd give it two stars, but that would be unfair because I don't believe Behringer intended for it to be that way. I gave it three stars because it's a good mixer (assuming you get lucky with the capacitors). Add in minor annoyances like ONLY 15v Phantom Power (Really, Behringer? ), and you've got a recipe for disaster. Everyone uses 48 volts) and a flimsy power cable. When I'm streaming, the plug frequently comes loose, cutting off my audio. This happened on BOTH units at the same time. The mixer's casing was designed incorrectly as well. It rocks even when set on a flat surface. I figured it was just bad luck with the first one, but the replacement unit had the same problem. If Behringer had not cut corners, they would have had a winner on their hands. EDITED ON 3/28/19: Following my initial review, I decided to purchase a standalone Behringer 48v Phantom Power module. The problem seemed to go away after I turned off Phantom Power on the mixer. Until now, that is. br>br>The loud static noise has returned, so I swapped out my mic (XLR) and bypassed the Phantom Power box to make sure it wasn't something else. I'm getting static noises right now with the mic plugged directly into Channel 1 and the 15v Phantom Power on. It's almost certain that the mixer is the source of the problem. br>br>It was an enjoyable ride, but you get what you pay for in the end. I'll give it a three-star rating because it did last me a long time, and I like the design, but quality control should be improved. I've been using Behringer products for years with no problems, but this one has me on the lookout for new mixers - Behringer isn't being looked for. Perhaps the next product generation will be superior.

Updated: Overall, this is a good product
4/5

Until unforeseen problems arose. Overall, it's quite nice, and I'd like to fiddle with it a little more to get the best sound possible. My only criticism is that if the volume on your PC is set to 100, you will hear electrical interference in your recording. As a result, you'll need to reduce it to 90 or lower to completely avoid the problem. br>br>Recent changes: br>br> br>I'm deducting one star from this review because it suddenly stopped working after only a month of use. Electrical interference appeared as a result of the settings I had, and it appears that the power cord is part of the problem. It works fine one minute, then the next it requires me to reduce the gain and level knobs to zero to avoid the problem.

It was exactly what I was looking for
5/5

This is precisely what I was looking for. I already own an AKG D5 xlr mic as well as a BEHRINGER U-47. I have a PHORIA UMC204HD set up for my PC, but I needed a mic for my PS4 that didn't sound bad. I considered purchasing a mod microphone, but I'm glad I started looking for USB mixers that work with the PS4 and came across this little gem. It functions flawlessly, and I have complete control over the mic gain and volume. I also have the option of using the headphone input to monitor the mic in real time. Because I play in a noisy environment and would like to reduce background noise as much as possible, the gain control options were extremely important to me. I also purchased an xlr splitter to use with this unit and my Behringer Uphoria so that I wouldn't have to keep disconnecting and re-connecting xlr cables. If you purchased this for the PS4 and are having trouble getting it to work, please send me a message or leave a comment and I will do my best to assist you:.

Without turning up the main output, there is no way to monitor the microphone
3/5

This mixer will not work if you need to turn off sound to your speakers or monitors when you turn on your mic. br>br>I have a Xenyx302USB that allows me to separate the main mix from the microphone levels. When switching to microphone, you can turn down the Main Mix and still hear/record the microphone input without it being sent to the speakers. br>br>However, on the Xenyx Q502USB, the mic input is not sent to the USB recording interface (or even headphones) unless the Main Mix is turned up. If your speakers are connected to the Main Mix or 2-channel mix, When you increase the main mix, the track output will create instant mic feedback. This is a serious flaw in the design. It's virtually impossible to use this audio interface with a standard home studio setup unless you either turn off your amplifiers/speakers every time you need to use the microphone or turn off your mic preamps before turning on the speakers, which is a major pain in either case. The output to speakers should be controlled by separate volume knobs or a switch. I'm not sure how they managed to wreak havoc on the Xenyx302USB (which is otherwise excellent), but they did.

This box is nice, but the 802 would have been a better match
5/5

This is a fantastic product that I purchased for my Roland Fp-100 piano. There is no audio input in the number 30! It took me a while to figure out how things worked, but once I did, I realized I needed a larger one so I could plug in more things and because the larger ones have 3-prong outlets. Every channel has three-way equalization, which means you get an equalizer and mixer in one, which is exactly how it should be. br>If you're a newbie like me, you should know that even if you don't use a microphone, the microphone input channels are extremely versatile: I can plug my guitar into the XLR using a DI box, or I can use the regular 1/4" inputs on the mike channel. The RCA interface comes in handy as well. They function similarly to an extra in and out, but without the ability to control them. For audio on my iPad, I use the in. My Behringer DI box and the phantom power seem to get along swimmingly. Also, if you only plug in one of the inputs on a channel, it automatically switches to balanced mono. br>br>So, get the 802 for music, but this is a beauty if you only need something for some voice work or a single instrument.
