Where does the power come from?

A 120-volt AC cord is included

Has anyone ever used this? I have seen that it runs on battery power or wires. Is this right?

The one in this case is plug-in It will only work on 110 AC!

Is this hard wired so that a switch can be mounted on the wall?

You can have it, but keep in mind that it takes a transformer to supply the 12 volt wall lamp with power. As long as it doesn't go bad, that won't be a problem. Just as a side note, this is more effective on the inside than the outside.
