merely to clarify. Before the revision to fix the reversing polarity issue, I received the "old" version of this with a serial number. I'm keeping the unit because I'm only going to use it with USB in order to avoid the problem, and I don't want to deal with returning and re-purchasing it. Buying something else. These units, however, should not be sold because they have a known defect, and buyers should be aware of this. That is the only reason for the two-star rating; aside from that, the unit works flawlessly, the sound is incredible (when used with a JDS Labs Atom), and I am very pleased with it.
Here are some of my thoughts: br>* It is a small device. It's about the same size as a CD case. The construction quality is excellent. The metal enclosure is painted in a smooth matt finish. br>* The sound is clear and rich in detail. I experimented with a variety of headphone amplifiers. The Fiio E09K produces a powerful sound with good dynamics. It produces the most pure sound with Schiit Magni Hesery. Schiit Vali 2 has the most dynamic and enjoyable sound. The differences between various headphone amplifiers/preamps are noticeable but minor. Sennheiser HD600 and Grado SR325, respectively, were used as headphones. br>* I tested it against the Fiio E17 DAC (Fiio E17/E09K combo vs E30 E09K as preamp). The E30 has a distinct advantage in terms of producing sound with greater detail and clarity. The E17/E09K combination sounds good, but it's a bit muddy. br>* I compared it to my 3-year-old son. year- Topping D30, which is no longer in production. There isn't much of a distinction. Because of the volume control, the top-of-the-line E30 can be connected directly to a power amp. It works well with my small desktop tda7498E amp, which sits comfortably on top of E30, thanks to the remote control. a few minor details: br>br> br>* The orange LED, which displays sample rate (in DAC mode) or volume (in pre-DAC mode), is very attractive. amplification) mode br>* The only cable included is a USB to 5V DC converter. To turn it on, you will need a USB port or an adapter. br>br>I love E30 and would recommend it to anyone!.
I took a chance on it now, and it turns out there are no polarity issues; it's serial 2004. br>br>I spent about a month deciding which DAC to buy. For future upgrades, I debated whether balanced XLR was necessary or desirable. I was comparing Geshelli, SMSL, and Topping's offerings, which all appeared to be similar but had different feature sets. I came across the E30 after that. I patiently awaited some reviews on the new SMSL M200 DAC, which I had previously purchased. I realized that the M200 was both overhyped and undervalued. It would be the end-all if the E30 were balanced. In this price range, there are no DACs. I'm not sure it makes a difference. The E30 has incredible sound quality. br>br>You can look at oscilloscope readings to see why a DAC is the best, and which has the cleanest signal scientifically. The E30 tests are remarkably high; on many tests, it tests similar to DACs at more than 300% of its MSRP. WOW. Linearity, distortion, and dynamic range are all included in this category. It made me reconsider whether I cared if a device had a balanced XLR output in the first place. I started looking into the differences between RCA and XLR to see if I cared about XLR at all. Even though I'd prefer XLR for a powered monitor upgrade and to feed a 789 in balanced mode, most powered monitors come with RCA. Furthermore, over short distances, the signal quality of RCA is not significantly degraded. br>br>As a result of all of these factors, I came to the conclusion that the E30 was an excellent budget DAC. So high, in fact, that I was willing to purchase it despite the fact that it had 0 HiFi-Reviews. KGUSS has a label on the college that says it was made by them. I can assure you that it is the correct DAC with the correct serial, and it is excellent. Stop hesitating and just buy it. Things I've discovered: br>br> 1. br>br> If you don't want to use the preamp, check the manual when you get it and set it to DAC mode. The display will no longer function solely as a DAC and will only show bitrate. 2. br>br>1. br>br>br>br>br>br Without going into too much detail, I recommend leaving Windows volume at 99 because it allows the DAC to function properly with a small amount of overhead. Searching for DACs and the Gibbs Phenomenon will yield more results.
Sound quality and price are both excellent. The reviews were correct; the AK 4493 DAC chip does an excellent job of decoding. br>The lovely orange display can be turned off. It even has a remote control! Because you can control the volume and filters, this is fantastic for hooking up to your stereo. I can't tell if the filters are different because they seem to cut off beyond my hearing (and probably everyone else's as well). It includes a USB cable as well as a power cable, which adds value to the already excellent audio performance. I used a JDS Labs Atom amp to make this, and it sounds fantastic. With headphones or earphones, it sounds great. My music now has a lot of small details that I didn't notice with my previous DAC. It sounds like I have a different, more enjoyable system when I drive my stereo. This was an EXTREMELY GOOD DEAL at $129. I can use optical and coax inputs, but USB from my computer sounds fantastic. Because the E30 is already so good, I'd be hesitant to spend more money on the next higher performance level. You should not pass this up at this price point and quality of performance; get it and rediscover your music. br>Excellent sound; no issues using it as a DAC or as a Preamp/DAC with volume control. I received an updated unit with my order, so I don't have any polarity issues, and it sounds great on both the Arcam A19 and the NAD C368 with decent mogami cables. This DAC is a lot of fun.
