I wonder. China is also the country of origin for the iPhone. The entire world is made up of Chinese products. As I am sure you can see, I have one of these Shures in my photo, and they work just fine. It is not clear to me whether mine is genuine or not. Purchasing them on Amazon.com was the best choice for me. This seems to be the case.
