Questions & Answers

I'd like to use it to dictate to my laptop using voice recognition. Is this something it'll work for? I'm looking for an XLR to 3. To connect it to my laptop, I used a 5mm adaptor. Is there such a thing as a single entity that doesn't require a connecting cable that Amazon sells?

This product works well with good voice recognition software, such as Dragon Naturally Speaking, which I use. And, yes, the XLR adapter is available on Amazon.

Is it a good microphone for a drummer who backs up singers?

It's a good mic, but as a drummer, singer, and engineer, I always recommend having an easy off for drummers who sing. When you're not singing, turn on the switch so the mic doesn't pick up any more drums!

The plug on my WH20XLR won't work with my transmitter, so I returned it. Is there a single or three-pronged plug on the QTR?

It comes with a single quarter-inch-diameter plug. As a result, the name is abbreviated as QTR. It's the same type of plug you'd find on a guitar cable that connects to an amplifier. I hope this has been of assistance:

What is required to operate this microphone and how does it work?

This is a XLR microphone. It doesn't require the use of phantom energy. Only a mixer/amp is required.

Selected User Reviews For Shure WH20XLR Dynamic Headset Microphone - (Wired) Includes 3-pin Male XLR Connector with Detachable Belt Clip, Black

This is something with which I disagree
5/5

I have a lot of issues with reviewers who assume that just because a product isn't right for them, it's not right for anyone else. In a classic rock band, I play drums, and in a small trio, I play cajon and percussion. I'm also in charge of the PA systems for both outfits. In both situations, I was tired of being tethered to a mic and boom, so I went with the Shure WH20XLR. To begin with, the attached wire is not intended for use with a mixer or amplifier. It's designed to be routed and clipped to a belt or pocket and used with a standard XLR cable. The mic's flexible wire isn't designed to be run to the mixer. I tuck the wire into my shirt, loop it through a belt loop, and plug the mixer cable in. The issue has been resolved. To muffle the mic, I used an XLR plug with a built-in rotary on/off switch. This is a dynamic microphone, so it'll pick up a lot of different sounds. There is no battery or phantom power. It's an XLR connector with a full size plug. There are separate versions for wireless and computer use (the last three letters in the model indicate which). ) The sound level is more than adequate when connected to a mixer or PA. I'm not sure if a low to high impedance adapter would work in a guitar amp or other Hi Z inputs, but it does in our Behringer mixer. Simply increase the gain. I've had an SM58 and SM57 for years and can say that with just a small cut in the mids and a small boost in the lows, this mic is fantastic. There are no stands or booms, so it's just like the SMs. I've worn it to a few shows and it's a little uncomfortable at first, but once it's properly fitted, it's unnoticeable. This mic is about $10 less expensive than an SM58 without a switch, so it's not a huge savings, but it is a different technology. It's something I enjoy, something both bands enjoy, and something that the audience enjoys. I wouldn't record with it, but for vocals, I'd probably use a condenser on a stand or a boom. I despise it when people trash good products because they didn't read the descriptions or conduct any research. It is possible that it will not appeal to everyone, which is why there are alternatives. The worst reviews are the ones that make it clear that the reviewer has no idea what they're doing. Used as designed, this is an excellent choice for a musician looking to get out from behind a mic stand or a drummer or KB player who wants to ditch the mic stand. I don't need wireless, so this wired version is perfect. My SMs and mic stands stay at home. Any piece of equipment can malfunction or break down while in use. That isn't to say it's a waste of time. It's all about the tech. It's amazing how some people adore the mic and use it without issue while others can't seem to get it to work or sound right. Although I prefer Zildjian cymbals to Sabian or Paiste, I do not dismiss their quality. I save the companies money by not purchasing their products. This is a microphone I would strongly recommend. For me, it's been ideal.

This is a great alternative to using a wireless headset
5/5

I decided to give Shure's wired mic a try. What a brilliant choice! It's reasonably priced, durable, doesn't require the batteries that a wireless mic does, has no moving parts, and has no issues! The sound quality is also excellent, and the windscreen almost completely eliminates all noise; however, some users have complained that it doesn't fit on their heads. It's perfectly acceptable to me. There is some noise from the wire flapping around, but it comes with a shirt clip, and I purchased a 6-foot XLR cable to go with it because the headset is only about 4 feet long. This could be the solution if you don't require complete freedom of movement on stage or elsewhere. This XLR cable, which I also like, was purchased from Amazon. Drummers! You've found it! I read all the reviews (especially from drummers) and they are spot on
5/5

This is the best product I've bought in a long time. I've only used it a couple of times over the weekend, but it's fantastic. There are no issues with feedback like there are with other products. It is a good fit for my medium-sized mellon (head). I use in-ear monitors in conjunction with this mic, and it works flawlessly. And, thank you very much, I don't have Dumbo ears to keep it all in place. Now that I have back-up vocal capabilities, I'm looking forward to becoming a duel-threat drummer. Shure, you did an excellent job!.

THIS IS YOUR NEXT MIC, PA GUYS! Locally, I'm the football, basketball, and track and field press officer
5/5

For years, I've wished for a headset microphone to free up space on my desk while playing video games. A tabletop microphone is right in the middle of it all, and a wireless hand-held mic is always on. This mic came with a Shure push-to-talk button, which I purchased separately. It works great, allowing me to turn it on and off instantly, and it frees up my desk space from the table mic. I also used it at the University of Missouri's State Championship football game, and the sound crew there assured me that it was a professional-grade microphone. The sound quality is crisp and clear, and it's a three-pin setup. If you're a PA looking for a great tool to add to your bag, get this and the Shure A120S switch and you'll be in heaven.

It was just a letdown
3/5

I was using it as a daily mic solution in conjunction with my mbox, which has some nice internal preamps. The sound I get from this isn't very good. I expected it to have limitations, but the signal has always been weak enough that I have to turn it up to 11 just to get my friends on Discord to hear me; recordings in Audacity return grainy and with a very low/unstable signal. I'm also not a big fan of the metal band who places it on your head. You can shape it a little, but if it's a little too wide or tight, it'll slip. offs and headaches, and it doesn't seem to want to stay in shape, so you're always fiddling with it. They send a bad band to try to cable manage, and don't even get me started on the mic section. Whatever small boxy locking device/clip they thought would be useful for securing the mic is a complete failure. It, like the mic/line, just can't seem to keep a locked position. In addition, the mic line is excessively long. I tried to put up with it for a year because of the cost, but I couldn't take it any longer. If you use this device on a regular basis, it will compete with you in terms of recording quality and stability.
