Questions & Answers

Is it possible to use it with Ableton?

It's compatible with Ableton, but the interface isn't as user-friendly. Many of the common features of the Ableton midi interface are more difficult to set up with this controller.

Will a volume expression pedal, such as the Yamaha fc7 volume expression pedal, work with the lx-100?

All of the ports on this synth are depicted in Figure 4 above. It "could" work if the correct port is present. With mine, I haven't used any kind of pedal.

Is it compatible with a HP laptop?

Any computer that has a USB 1, 2, or 3 port will work. USB 3.0 is available on newer notebooks.

Is there a way to upgrade the firmware?

I don't believe that is the case. The controller does not require any additional software to operate. It would have been through that if the firmware could be updated, but since there aren't any, I'm guessing no.

Selected User Reviews For Nektar Impact LX49+ Keyboard Controller, Multicolored

At every turn, I was pleasantly surprised
5/5

First and foremost, due to the holiday rush, shipping was delayed; however, this should have no bearing on my review because I was pleasantly surprised when I connected this midi controller to my computer. br>The registration process was straightforward and intuitive; I didn't even need to read the manual. My god, I just got the driver.
- The integration of Logic X and Cubase is fantastic. VST, mixer, track control, and, of course, full midi integration are all included.
- The keys are fine, but the keybed spring action takes a little getting used to, especially if you're used to playing piano like me. br>- The VST controls are incredible and programmable. br>- Even as a mixer controller with full control over eight tracks, it performs admirably.
- Another pleasant surprise was the pad control; not only is it responsive and has configurable pressure sensitivity, but it can also be used for other purposes besides drum pads. br>br>I'm still figuring out what this small, inexpensive midi controller can do, but Nektar did a fantastic job on this one. Definitely a five-star rating.

I strongly advise against using any Nektar products because they are consistently defective
3/5

br>br>Within six months of purchase, the keyboard developed a defect, with various knobs and sliders sending MIDI data even when not being moved manually. It took nearly eight weeks for a warranty replacement to arrive at my house - The non-compliance was the sole cause of the delay. Follow-up and communication And, to make matters worse, the replacement was also defective after only 6 months. br>br>I know they don't do proper quality assurance testing and modifications to address common issues at the manufacturing level because the same defect appears in two products. br>br>If you wanted another Nektar controller, you'd have to pay me.

The durability of the product is poor
3/5

I purchased this in May, but I wanted to give it some time to play with before writing a review. I was quite pleased with it at first. I'm new to using midis and such, but even as a novice, I was pleased when I received Addictive keys. However, this week I noticed something strange with it when the drum pads began to light up without my touching them. I haven't spent enough time with the drum pads to figure out how they work, but when I first got the keyboard, the light on one of them would change from green to red whenever I touched it. When I touch them, they stay green, but if I don't, they turn red and make a noise. As you might expect, this is extremely inconvenient and should never occur. I've never dropped this keyboard because it's always on my desk, unless I'm cleaning it. I've also dusted the keyboard with an air duster. This is a mystery to me. br>br>At first, I was smitten, but now I can't help but be disappointed by its lack of durability in everyday use. I'm also not sure if the company that sells them offers a limited warranty other than the one available through Amazon, which is aggravating.

I've bought three midi controllers from three different manufacturers in the last two years, all of which have good hardware and good software DAW integration at a reasonable price
5/5

This one was a gift for my son, though I did play with it after he opened it for a while. As a result, my viewpoints are limited to that brief application. Hardware: br>br>Installation: br>br>Installation: br>br>Install br>The hardware of this controller isn't as nice as the hardware of the other two midi controllers I own (Akai MPK249 and NI Komplete S 49 MK2), but it's also MUCH less expensive, so that's to be expected. The hardware appears to be comparable to that of other midi controllers in this price range. So, in my opinion, it's more or less a wash. br>br>Integration of software and digital audio workstations: br>In my opinion, this is where Nektar products shine. If your DAW is included in the list of supported DAWs, the integration makes this controller far more usable than most others. I've heard that Moog and other high-end synthesizers are available. I'm not sure if end controllers under $2k have good DAW integration. It automatically maps the transport and smart controls in Logic ProX to the rotary encoders, and maps the faders to the mixer controls, according to what I saw and what my son told me. In comparison to what most midi controllers come with out of the box, this is a very nice feature. br>br>This is a MUCH better option than my Akai MPK, which has almost no DAW integration. The DAW integration is nearly identical to that of my Native Instruments Komplete S49 MK2. (If you're familiar with the NI S49 MK2, you're aware that the main selling point is the integration with NI Komplete software, rather than the native DAW instruments. ) The Nektar's integration with stock Logic instruments is superior to that of my NI S49 MK2) in this regard. Unless you're a professional musician performing on stage, software integration is what really makes a midi controller useful, so in that case, this is one of the most reasonably priced options you could make, in my opinion.

A big thumbs up
5/5

This is something I really enjoy. For my first midi, it's perfect. It has a pleasant feel to it and is straightforward to use with FL Studio. Rather than an mpk mini, I prefer this.

This was purchased to use with FL Studio
5/5

I bought it for FL Studio about a month ago. It accomplishes a remarkable feat. I've observed the velocity of the MIDI notes and the LX49 appears to accurately transfer the attack with which I'm playing. br>br>The keys feel sturdy and compare favorably to my upright piano. The knobs, sliders, wheels, and pads are all well-made and track smoothly. br>br>The setup tutorial provided by Nektar for FL Studio was quick and simple. I also like how many features it has if you want to customize it for your DAW.

It came with a software license, which is a good way to get started
4/5

I bought it because of the weighted keys (as well as the reviews). I knew it wouldn't be a high-octane experience. It's a high-end midi controller, but it'll do the job for me. It came with a software license, which is a good way to get started. I did, however, already own a digital audio workstation. br>br>On the other hand, it's a little too sensitive. If I blow on the keys hard enough, I can actually cause a MIDI event to happen:.
