It's the perfect guitar for a child who is 8 years I have learned a lot playing this guitar, and I think it's among the best beginner instruments I have one. In regards to the amps and the An amp that is cheaper would be fine for you. It would be wise to use line 6 as a cheap starting amp. A good spider 4 model can be found here.
