What kind of material is this mallet made of?

There is no aluminum in these. This is made of a hard, translucent material called Lexan. Clearly, the M146 model is the one to go for if you're looking for an aluminum Vic Firth mallet.

Can you tell me if this is for one or two mallets?

As a gift, I received two pairs.

I just received it My exact wish came true. This glockenspiel has a great weight and sounds great. There was a little damage to the package (plastic bag) but that did not bother me. The box was far too big for the package that was sent with it.
