A polishing cloth that isn't for plated instruments and the cutest swab I've ever seen? The mouthpiece and neck brushes are worth two stars. Also, the reed holder isn't necessary. Throughout high school, I used a nearly identical reed protector, and the entire reed fit inside. This one is a little smaller, allowing the reed's back to show. This is a great way to break a reed in half. A reed can cost $30 if you play synthetics, which isn't a big deal for a $2 reed.
The only useful item in the kit is the neck cleaner. The swab is a piece of cloth that can be used to remove small fibers from your horn - Purchase a silk one or one with the Yamaha logo. The polishing cloth appears to be abrasive, particularly near the logo. It says to rub vigorously, but then it says, "Do not use on plated finishes. " "This kit is a complete waste of money. Purchase two good swabs: one for the body and the other for the neck/mouthpiece. It's also a good idea to get a pad saver or padguard insert and push it into your case after cleaning. It will take a little longer to pay off, but it will be well worth it in the end. These tips may help you avoid having to replace your expensive pads for another 12 to 15 years.
Some of the tools are nice, but the bore swab, due to its poor design and low quality, can get caught inside my sax and damage keys if I am not careful about how I insert it. I'd rather avoid using the bore swab altogether (it's far too dangerous). I didn't even try to use it because I have a better reed guard. The remaining items appear to be adequate in terms of functionality - They don't bother me in any way.
I already own a Selmer saxophone, so I figured I'd stick with that brand, but I'm disappointed with my purchase - Mostly because it didn't contain everything it claimed to contain. It came with a basic set of accessories that were adequate but not exceptional. However, the incomplete package bothers me, so if I buy another care kit in the future, I'll most likely choose a different brand and hope for better results.
It's perfect for my alto saxophone. The brush on the tenor's neck is too small.
This has everything you need, and buying it every four months is a good idea. Don't be cheap and buy this if you've already spent a lot of money on a good saxophone.
Because I own a Selmer saxophone, I purchased this kit. I'm very pleased with it, and I believe that a care kit from the same brand would be beneficial. I take full responsibility for this error. The materials are of low quality, as the product's price indicates, but, as I previously stated, the brand made me expect more. There isn't a comprehensive manual included with your kit that explains how to use all of the items. To learn how to use it, I had to bring the entire package to my luthier. If you want something good that will last and help you treat your instrument properly, this is not the product for you; you will pay exactly the price for what you will receive.
