Amazon would be able to answer this for you. There is a genuine Thomastik mania in Austria thanks to the Strings. The reason I know is that I purchased them and am from Vienna.

What is the effect of adding S44 extended E to this set?

There are three copies of standard E in this set. There is no extended E set offered by Thomastik. To order strings, you'll have to order them individually.

It is my first time trying Pirastro string sets, including solo and weich sets. I liked them but with one particular bass, I needed more definition. Compared to previous strings, these have a more defined top end and note definition. Their articulate style has me completely enamored, but I'm sure they will point out any intonation issues that you may have. . . I highly recommend them!.
