Does the job, but is prone to breaking

It was in great shape until I removed it from my violin to recharge under more water and it broke off. As a result, the end of my violin fell off and I had to fiddle with it for about 10 minutes. In any case, I bought one for my boyfriend as well, and he so far has not broken it. Could there be a defect in mine?.
