As far as the manufacturer is concerned, this wire is spring-tempered, phosphate-coated, carbon steel meeting ASTM standard A228, and it meets ASTM standard A244. While the phosphate coating will provide some rust resistance, by itself it will not be able to protect the wire from rust if exposed to wet surroundings or outdoors for long periods. The reason for this is that phosphate coatings are usually microscopically porous and will allow moisture to penetrate

Are there 4 individual pieces (3" approx.) or is it 12" x 4? The pieces for the mobile I am making for my grandson don't have to be overly short. ?

As long as there isn't too much bending, the plastic is bendable, but it does have some memory, meaning it will return to its original shape. Piano wire, or spring wire, is what is known as this. So you can almost certainly use it to build springs for your own home.

They are of good quality, but not stiff

The ones made in China won't have surface rust spots, like the ones from China. We will be using it as an anti-theft measure On a number of RC cars are sway bars Bend the pipe with needle nose pliers to fit. Cut the pipe to size with linesman's pliers while wearing safety glasses.
