It was the neck that was the source of dissatisfaction. The nut that came with the neck was absolutely horrible. The string spacing cuts were off, as well as being very shallow. This was a brand new Fender neck that was made in Mexico. a Fender guitar not in a box Gah! If your Jazz Bass neck is made in Mexico. This is the Tusk nut that should be a perfect fit. I took a look at the PQL-based system. 1214, and some claimed to have shaved their beards in order to get to work. I used calipers to measure mine and found that it was identical to the PQL- I decided to order it instead at 1215. It was a perfect match, and I'm very pleased with the tone and sustain. I'll preface everything by saying that it was perfect for "MY" bass. Measure your nut and check the Tusq website to see which one is right for you. Since the 1980s, I've been constructing and repairing guitars and basses. Take it to someone who knows what they're doing if you're unsure how to replace it. If you aren't careful, they will easily break. I'll admit that once I got this one in, I didn't feel the need to file it down. In terms of depth and spacing, the cuts were absolutely perfect. Out of the six basses I've made over the last 30 years, this one has the best playing. That surprised me, but it made me happy. ) I believe Tusq should be the supplier of Fender's nuts!.
This nut was purchased to replace the stock nut on my MIM Fender jazz bass. It was a little too high at first, but I sanded it down in a matter of minutes, and now my bass sounds fantastic! br>br>If you're like me and think MIM Fender instruments have great wood but questionable hardware, listen to how much better your tone is just by swapping on a Tusq nut and an upgraded set of pickups; you'll be glad you did!.
I like that it came a little thicker than I needed so that I could customize it to fit my neck. I had to make cuts because I have a bound neck. This nut sands beautifully and was a breeze to shape. Take it slowly and measure, remeasure, and repeat as needed to ensure you get it right and don't take too much off, as with most guitar projects. Tusq is now installed on nearly all of my guitars, and the tone and sustain are noticeably improved.
This piece worked great on my bass, and after a full set up, including grinding any prior damage and setting the neck, it almost plays like an American Fender.
You must shape it, just like any other nut!.
My MIM Fender Jazz bass looks great with it. The item was delivered ahead of schedule. A thank you note and candy were also included in the package. It reminds me of the customer service at Sweetwater.
My bass sound was instantly improved. It's a lot more resonant now, and it lasts a lot longer!.
