Questions & Answers

These recently came in the mail to me and i'm getting a hum from them, but I know that they are in working order. What does that mean?

The pickups in mine also hum a little, or so it seems, since they are a lot higher power pickup than stock pickups. However, I don't pay them much attention when I'm playing them. Even when I am not playing them, the tones more than make up for it. Humming or buzzing loudly could be an indication that there's something wrong with the grounding.

The screws that go with these are included, correct? What is foam?

No mounting screws, but they can be used. Identify the foam by its

Do your pups tend to be active or passive?

It is a passive pup.

According to the description, this is an American J Bass. What are the chances that it will appear on 2001 Mim J ?

Two of my paintings are mine I think they are RI jazz basses from the 60th anniversary, plus some other things It was my job to install pickups on them. I installed these in two MIM model 2002s. There was no modification to the body, just unsoldered the wires, then soldered them back in Added the new wires to the circuit Amazing results in an instant

The tone is very modern and punchy
5/5

The sound quality of my Squier VM Jazz Bass was greatly enhanced by these. Sound is modern and scooped (heavy on the bass and treble, not as heavy on the midband)- As such, jazz bass can sound like a vintage John Paul Jones tone, which is what they're famous for anyway, but keep that in mind if you are looking for more of a vintage bass There is also a lot of noise from these pickups. I like them better than my old ones because they're a bit louder. In other words, I am talking about the notes that come As far as I can tell, there is no signal noise. (

As these are split coil pickups, the bass sound has a unique jazzy vibe, but it does hum when you solo one of the pickups. This type of noise will generally not be heard, but it needs to be kept in mind with a noise gate (either a pedal or on the sound board). All in all, they offer a great alternative by utilizing the hallmarks of a jazz bass and taking them to a whole new level. However, if you're looking for a vintage sound, you might want to try the Dimarzio Area J pickups. Those sound great on another bass, but they're quite different from those on this bass. If you are looking for a way to get rid of hum, the Dimarzio Ultra Jazz could be the right fit. These pickups are similar to Quarter Pound pickups, but they are noiseless (although a bit less authentic, since they are not single coils).

There are some excellent passive bass pickups on the market today
5/5

With a set of these in a Fender Jazz Bass I have had for 15 years, this has been my personal favorite. After purchasing a Fender jazz bass elite a few months ago, I bought another set of these on the basis that the MIM sounded so much better than the high end set. My opinion is that you cannot go wrong with these products.

Rather than a thumper, this song has new life
4/5

My wife and I bought a new Fender Jazz Bass MIM in January 2018 to get away from the Rickenbacker 4003 guitar sound we had in our 50's. In an 2000's cover band, I attempted to get the tone I wanted by manipulating the tone with capacitors and series switching, but it wasn't quite right so I bought a set of Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounders, model number SJB-H. In three days via UPS ground, I received them in a padded envelope. The first thing I noticed was that the plastic case was cracked, but when I carefully examined the pups there was no visible damage at all. I just wished they had been packed in a smaller The Quarter Pounder pickups are well built and contain eight powerful alnico 5 magnets, each with a linear pole piece. I had to add foam weather stripping on both pups to compensate for the 5/16" difference in each. The stock pups used steel posts with magnetic strips on each side. The neck pup dropped right in, too far in, so I had to fabricate some foam weatherstripping. A little work with a wood chisel was required to remove some wood in the pup route and sprayed noise insulation in its place to allow it to slide freely on the bridge. Moreover, I also ordered an improved pot kit with a As per the instructions, finish putting all of the pieces back together, setting the height to 1/8". Upon turning on the amp for the first time, the first thing I noticed was its higher output and cleaner sound. Compared to a 1 pup, there was more tone separation between each pup and I really enjoyed the overall sound, but it didn't get deep enough for Blue Beau and These Boots type songs, so I tried numerous other tone caps for Blue Beau and ended up settling on a Add a 0 and a 0 to a number of mf. With a push-pull button, you can switch a 032 mf cap on and off. The new pups didn't seem to make any difference to the noise from fluorescent lights that my bass used to have. There are some reviews that say the pads are more sensitive than the stock, but I didn't find that to be the case.

In the end, the new pups brought new life to the mids and upper end, and rolling off the neck gives it a very snappy and rich tone for slap without being too piercing. If you are hoping to transform your JB into a "Sugar Pie Honey Bunch" thumper, these won't do it for you, but if you want a "refresh" and some vintage clean tones, these are the pickups for you.

The investment was well worth it

They I installed in my Fender MIM Geddy Lee Jazz base (SD 1/4 lb). In addition, I replaced the stock 250k pots with 500k ones. We paralleled a 47 and a 42 This capacitor has a 33 uf value. This is a fantastic outcome and I couldn't be more delighted. When I roll the tone out, I hear nice crisp highs and deep dark lows. The tone range I now have is quite wide, and I have many Moreover, I have a passive/active P/J, and these modifications have enhanced the power of my J bass to the point where it can both sound as good passively as my P/J when active. Definitely worth the investment.

The price is reasonable and the quality is great
5/5

Jazz bass pickups by Seymour Duncan 1/4-pound single coils are the best pickups I have ever used on a bass guitar. I use them in all my Fender jazz basses. I've always been a custom guitar builder and I always recommend Seymour Duncan guitar pickups to anyone I work on building, repairing, or hot rodding an instrument. Thank you Michae Raper custom guitar for Hot Rod custom guitars and repair for the great price on Amazon. I will definitely buy more from you in the future.

It is better to choose a better alternative
3/5

January 2016, which is when the set was bought. There have now been 3 instances of the neck pickup breaking down. The email was sent to Seymour Duncan, and he has been contacted via phone. Their response has not yet been received. In the future, I'll get DiMarzios to replace this set.

This Seymour Duncan jazz bass pickup weighs a quarter pound
5/5

A quarter pound jazz bass pick up from Seymour Duncan Since I heard about these a while ago, I've wanted to give them a try. There are no disappointments with them! It has a good punch to it, they have a high output. I replaced the stock pickups with these and found them to be easy to install. I can deal with more noise since they are high gain, but there is a slight amount from not playing them.
