In 2018, I bought my first set of Colortones as soon as they became available - Emperors on the toms and a Powerstroke 77 on the snare made up the entire green set. I wasn't planning on using snares, but what the heck. This happened to be the same time as the snare head on a new (to me) snare was installed, and it became an instant part of my sound. This is my third 77 (the previous two were pink), and I adore the muted but full tone. Snares sound fantastic when mic'd, and you don't need to dampen them at all. To summarize, they allow you to hear more of the shell rather than the ring of the head, which for me was a game changer. My band, too, prefers a more subdued sound. These snare drum heads are incredible.
It took me a little longer than I expected to tune this head, but the extra effort was well worth it. My snare has never sounded better than this. That's not even taking into account how insanely cool having all orange drumheads looks. It's a perfect match for my outfit.
I adore these.
My snare drum makes that nice cracking sound as a result of it!.
I really like this drum head. I'm also in possession of the toms.
