I was looking for a good 15" 2ply head and this was the best I could find. This was combined with a Remo Muffl system on top and a Gibraltar external tone control device on the bottom to get a great floor tom sound without the annoying overtones.
With the ambassador on the other end of the line, there was too much ring, so I spread out four cotton balls and tossed them in. Then you're too far gone. It was perfect after I removed two. So I put two in each of the toms that I had left. 10- I expected to require more as the toms grew larger, but no, the amount of fullness required was just right for my ears.
I've experimented with a variety of brands, plies, and coatings, among other things; Every time I visit, I return. The Emperors are dependable batter heads who have just the right amount of sing in them. I haven't tried them this way yet, but I've heard they make good resonate heads.
I believe I am one of the few drummers who uses these on the bass drum. I play classic rock and have been using these for a long time. They seem fantastic to me. It sounds similar to a Pinstripe, but it has a more open tone. With this head, I also employ the Dave Weckl muffling system. Without the EMAD deadening, I can hear the bass drum's natural tone.

to stomp on people's heads for a long time It's thick enough to withstand abuse but thin enough to resonate with a full, warm sound. For added resonance, I like to use them with Clear Diplomats. When I use Clear Ambassadors with these, I get a lot more punch and attack, but I lose a lot of resonance.

Emperors and Ambassadors are two of the most powerful people in the world. All of the heads arrived in perfect condition, brand new and undamaged, and the drums sound fantastic. Pricing was comparable to that of online retailers (in some cases, even less expensive).
