What is the size of the 55 gallon tank. Why is the plastic drum used?

The manufacturer is the only one who can say for sure, but I don't think so. According to the specification, it is designed for a "55 gallon closed head metal drum.". Thank you for your input!

The metal drum I have measures 23 inches in diameter. On the lip, it has an OD of 5". Would it be correct to use this ?

I measured the lip of my 55 gallons steel drums at 22 inches. It has an outer diameter of 75 inches. Although the covers are loosely fitting, they do not feel uncomfortable. You will probably be able to fit them in.

I stayed put in strong winds of more than 30 mph

For use as a burn barrel, I purchased it. The fit is loose, but it stayed put even in winds of over 30 mph. I'm happy that Ash stays dry and I'm happy that I'm happy.

The cover is great, and the price is very reasonable

It doesn't say in the listing but the cover fits poly closed head drums too, which is what I needed. So I took the chance and the cover fits. I found the fit to be tight and secure yet it was still not difficult to put on and take.

Don't allow rain to collect in barrels to be used for tramp waste fluid

This is especially true when the barrel costs 80$. When it comes to keeping rainwater out of barrels intended for collecting waste fluids, these have proven very difficult to beat. I consider it a steep price to pay for the disposal of a barrel of oil.

My open 55 gallon drum bio filter needs a cover just like this. They were perfect for each other. Two were not enough covers so I bought six (6 for $32) when I needed six.
